Hello, my name is Oscar and I am a Violin and Piano teacher from the UK, now living in Bristol, after several years of living abroad. I've been teaching and performing on both instruments for 5 years, during, and after my studies at the Royal Northern College of Music. I have taught children from the age of four, up to adults in their late sixties, and I find all spectrums of age and ability rewarding and engaging to work with. Regarding Violin tuition, I am happy to teach up to any level. On the piano, I, however, currently prefer to teach up to an ABRSM grade 8 level, and not far above it. My musical endeavors, whilst focused predominantly on the Classical style in my early childhood, have become quite varied and I am a great lover of many different styles. I play regularly in Klezmer bands, Celtic Folk groups and I run a Gypsy Jazz Collective, besides performing with Orchestra's, Small string ensembles, and as a Solo Violinist. Whilst I wouldn't consider myself to be an expert, I thoroughly enjoy guiding people through the early stages of learning to improvise, and I am equally comfortable working with students in this way as I am teaching in a more traditional, classically-orientated manner. If you're just learning music now and it feels like there's a lot to understand, don't worry we're gonna start from the basics. I will help you understand music and its elements. With your dedication and my guidance, I'm positive that we will get a good result!

In this class, we will be exploring music by learning your favorite songs from any genre you enjoy. I will personalize the lessons to your needs and make sure we cover all the fundamentals that will set you on the right track! I will teach you how to: - learn songs by ear, (pop, jazz r&b, funk, fusion, hip-hop, and whatever you like honestly) - improvise, - compose, - understand music theory (harmony, rhythm, scales, progressions, sight-reading etc.) - produce and sound design in Ableton. About me: Education: I started playing music at 7 years old, went through 12 years of music school, and then moved to Amsterdam and spent 4 years learning jazz guitar at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. I frequently play with various bands ranging from Pop and Funk to Jazz Fusion and even Techno. Teaching style: I’m open-minded and straightforward, and I focus on giving my students the tools and basics they need to learn and explore on their own.

I’m back in the states in Summer 2024. Here is my story: I started out as a jazz pianist but began dedicating myself to classical music around the age of 14. Two years later I was accepted to the prestigious Central Music School at the Moscow Conservatory. I lived in Russia until the age of 18, and even back then I had major success in international piano competitions. I moved to the US to study with a Van Cliburn Gold medalist under a full scholarship at Park University. I later got my Master’s in piano performance at Yale University. While in the US, I played all over the country and won close to ten international piano competitions. During the past two years I have lived in Germany, where I tried to absorb as much experience as possible about the German piano tradition. I am a U.S. green card holder now. My strategy is to teach you to practice as efficiently as possible. Most people are wasting their time practicing the instrument, then get frustrated and eventually abandon it. I will show you how to make your practicing meaningful. The goal is to make it easier and more enjoyable, not harder. I would describe my approach as hands-on, but I am willing to give students as much freedom as they choose. I often ask my students to send me a video recording of their performance so that we can track progress and discuss our goals and objectives together. I send a detailed lesson summary and practice instructions at the end of every lesson. I try to be polite but straightforward. My job is to encourage you but also be clear about what is getting in your way. I am a perfectionist and encourage my students to push the bar as high as is possible at the moment. Although I have experience as a jazz pianist, my formal training is as a classical pianist and I prefer to offer only classical music lessons, yet the repertoire can range from early baroque to the most recent contemporary. Hey! My name is Richard and I give private lessons to all levels. For guitar, it is important that you can improve yourself in a pleasant environment in a fun way where your interests are central. Do you want to delve deeper into a certain style? Do you want to create your own sound on your guitar using amps, and pedals, ...? I can help you with all that! Knowledge of solfège or music theory is not required, we can always discuss this in class if you wish, but that is certainly not mandatory ;) I have been playing the guitar since I was 9 years old and for several years now I have been playing in professional bands with which I have been able to play on sugar rock, for example. The lessons would take place at my home in Mol or via webcam. If necessary, we can always agree on something else. For many people improvisation is a scary word and having to improvise in a group or band is an alarming prospect. However, this really does not need to be the case. As long as you have a basic knowledge of how to play your instrument you will be able to improvise. Once you know the principle of how chords are formed you will soon be improvising with ease. If you play a keyboard instrument you will be able to improvise your own pieces and be able to entertain your friends at a moments notice. On the other hand if you play in a band or a group you will be well equipped to do a real 'jam' session.
