Private lessons in maths / physics / chemistry primary to university level

I am currently a full-time teaching assistant in chemistry at UCLouvain for science, bioengineering and management engineering students for 6 years. I also hold the aggregation of upper secondary education. I teach individuals in chemistry by adapting as best as possible to your level by starting as much as possible from the basics which often pose the most problems. I take pleasure in trying to make this subject more understandable, which, it must be admitted, is rather unique and complex. I also try to make chemistry concepts more perceptible using concrete examples of their usefulness. I usually work in two-hour lessons with a break in the middle and provide additional exercises to do at home to optimize learning. I teach classes in English or French. I have to start by admitting something to you: in high school, I had very bad grades in math. I spent a long time telling myself that a scientific career was not for me. When I decided to try engineering anyway, I had to relearn everything from scratch, by myself. At the beginning I would have been quite incapable of passing a second humanity level exam. Months of hard, self-taught work pushed me to develop a working method focused on deep understanding of a subject rather than just withholding information. Through this private lesson project I dream of being the person I would have needed a few years ago, a person who in addition to allowing the student to succeed, transmits the motivation to learn. Having qualified as a management engineer since 2020, I have always had the opportunity to share my taste for mathematics with younger students who are reluctant to think that mathematics is not as terrible as it seems. The subjects of math, physics and/or chemistry may be very abstract to you, especially when you see this in class. This is normal, but it is imperative to find a solution and bring much more clarity to your abstract view of these courses. And that is my duty. As a civil engineering student, I can help you with any subject in math, physics and even chemistry. Lessons can be done at my home, at your home, or even by webcam.

I am a Master student in civil engineering with a degree in applied mathematics, I offer my services throughout Belgium and for all students who have difficulties or who want to break records in school. I have an experience of more than 3 years and a fairly variable methodology depending on the student. In my methodology I always want first to help the student to catch up with his classmates and teachers and then push him to go much further in his thoughts while having fun and without the slightest pressure. I first identify which points are problematic in order to increase the efficiency of the courses. Then, depending on the student's requests and difficulties, I re-explain certain poorly understood theoretical concepts and solve exercises with him. For the theory, I make sure to explain the material as I would have liked to have been explained to me during my studies and I review the points of the course from new angles in order to facilitate understanding. For the exercises, I first let the student suggest his method of solving because each problem can be approached in several ways and it is much more productive to start from the student's ideas. I favor understanding by heart because I consider that memorization is only rarely necessary in math and science. Once the material is perfectly assimilated, we retain it much longer than if we study it without understanding it. My engineering studies allowed me to better link the abstract concepts of mathematics and science to concrete problems. If the student needs it, I can therefore easily give many visual and intuitive examples in order to speed up understanding. I would share with you my knowledge as well as my advice as a student and former high school student. About me: I am a student at the polytechnic school of Louvain-la-neuve. As a student I know how difficult it is sometimes to learn and assimilate subjects. My first student was a family friend whom I helped in high school in subjects such as math and science. She had a lot of difficulties and failures and it turns out that following my lessons which lasted two months and the entire duration of her exam session during which I followed and supported her, she came out with a report card without failures and a very large positive difference in marks compared to her last. Since then, I have had the opportunity to help several students in their journey from the first secondary to the first year of university.
