The music theory is to be interpreted. A written score keeps an unspecified part. We must first conceive, imagine, a work in its entirety and then decipher it. In the example of this universally known sonata, we offer another reading, the only one that brings harmony and creates continuity between the three movements. Indeed, this sonata forms an indivisible whole and can be played as a single movement. As long as we perform the triplets at the beginning in increasing dynamics with the accent on the last note, which alone makes the harmony sound and allows the modulations to be naturally linked. This interpretation, once known to great performers, is now stifled by a mechanical realization of music theory, encouraged by poorly understood annotations from writers and editors.
