Trusted teacher: I am an artist and philosopher from Amsterdam currently living in Antwerp. I studied in London where I acquired a BA from Art Academy London and a BA in philosophy from St Mary's University London. Artistic development starts by identifying your artistic interest. As artists, we don't always know why we draw and paint the things that we do. Yet they are not random. What captivates us or draws us towards certain artworks? This might be the tonal way in which light reflects, structural forms or mathematical division. The point being, is that we all have such aesthetic interests and step 1 is finding out what interests you! Step 2 is helping you express your interests through painting techniques, styles and materiality. But it all starts with you. What do you want to say? And how? I will help you do this through discussion, looking at your previous work (if you have any), introducing you to a LARGE variety of artists, potentially copying their styles. I adjust my classes according to your needs. The goal is simple: to come to understand your artistic interest, help you find techniques to express them and develop your artistic language. (Please note that just because you have found an artistic interest and a way to express it, it does not mean that you must do only one thing for the rest of your life. It is the downfall of creativity to repeat and paint the same way over and over again. Instead, allow your interests to drive your creativity. Let it be the starting point, venture out and discover it from various angles and ways of expressing it they change, we must remain honest and respond accordingly such that our artistic language can also grow.) 31€Painting in oils and beyond: Allow me to help you speak with the language of fine art
I have been involved in art for twenty years. I started out painting and selling both oils and watercolours. This developed to become, for a while, the main source of our household income. I managed to have solo exhibitions in Devon and Kent in the UK, as well as USA, Japan and, when I lived in France, several there too. When I returned from France, I started my academic studies in Fine Art Sheffield Hallam and Leeds Arts University where I receive a BA and MA in fine art. I have great interest in the theory of fine art, such as composition, perspective, colour theory; the technology of fine art in understanding materials used and techniques applied. The theories of doing that allow successful expression. As well as purely fine art theory, this allows me to bring in psychology and other scientific thought, not to usurp fine are theory, but to bolster it both to confirm existing theories as well as opening out possible avenues for discovering new ones. In painting I see myself as impressionist but recently have moved more towards realism to better communicate with internet viewer. This is because, when a piece is photographed, people cannot see complexity of the brush strokes used. I like to paint genre where complicated compositions and intellectual work is involved but I also do portraits, still life and landscape. In sculpture I use mostly archaic composition, as exemplified by Henry Moore and Aristide Maillol. I really enjoy sharing my love of art with other. I believe everybody can express themselves through art (and probably should) and I love being a catalyst to make that happen. I do not use restrictive instruction where I tell students what they must do, but help them develop themselves - help them to discover their own way while sharing helpful insights from my own practice and wide knowledge of fine art practice and theory.
