My classes are different depending on your level and age. With children from 7 to 12, we start by doing easy vocalization and start training the ear with intonation, we then have fun singing your favorite songs. With teenagers, I also start with some vocalization, a little more elaborate. Depending on the student's capabilities, we start establishing a comfortable range for them and then proceed to singing. For my older students ideally, I divide our lesson into 2 sections. We work on respiration and how the diaphragm works. We do scales and arpeggios and work on intonation. We then proceed to singing and putting into practice our technique. Some students might need more technique before they actually sing, I like to take things slowly and make sure the student feels confident and comfortable singing. I teach children, teenagers, and adults, from beginners to more advanced. Classical training enables you to sing in any kind of way, so don’t hesitate and let’s sing!

Over my 10 years of teaching experience both privately and through NYC music schools, I have developed a variety of effective and individualized teaching tools that I continually refine. My students range in age from 5-70 years and sing music in a variety of styles including classical, musical theater, pop, and more. I have helped hundreds of singers reach their personal goals which have ranged from matching pitch to winning competitions, getting the leading role in a show or putting together a solo recital to confidently performing at karaoke and achieving their personal best. I speak with with my students before our first lesson to understand their background, goals, and answer any questions before we begin. For the first lesson, I always ask you bring something you like to sing and then as we progress we decide what repertoire makes the most sense. I start by explaining how the voice works: our body as our instrument. I then introduce individualized technique exercises to fit the student's need. Our work will include breath, resonance, vocal fold closure, vowels, range, and much more. My ultimate goal is to give you tools to build confidence in your practice and reach your personal goals in a fun and supportive environment! Well-versed in many vocal genres, I have performed in operas, recitals, musicals, choirs, and competitions internationally including the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. I have a Master of Music in classical vocal performance from the Mannes School of Music and a Bachelor of Music from the University of Michigan. I have studied dance, piano, and Alexander Technique in addition to vocal pedagogy. As an Italian Opera singer, I help since many years singers with the right pronunciation of the repertoire they sing, helping them in shaping the language in a clear way, which also helps the singing. Our lesson will involve speaking, pronunciation exercises and singing. We will start the lesson by reading the text and finding the right direction and emphasis. We will focus on the sounds and how to produce them. In the second part of the lesson, we will apply all of the above to the singing!

Dear students: My name is Denise and I'm a professional singer with a singing master's degree from Catalonia's Music College (ESMUC) specialized in Historical Singing, Musicology and Music Education. My experience runs mostly in early and classical music with an active performing life, nevertheless I also have the experience and knowledge of popular musical styles such as Latin-American folk, jazz and musicals. As a docent or vocal coach I've collaborate with different academic institutions and private artistic projects, focusing mostly on international students or social integration programs. I have years of experience teaching children, teenagers and adults in both Latin-America and Europe, therefore understanding different appreciation levels and needs.
