The aforementioned 7:
1) I graduated high school when I was 30 and I obtained my PhD 9 years later... How this happened always needs an excellent beer (heavy on the Pilsner) or coffee (heavy on the milk). But as a teaser, I can tell you it involved someone else's Art degree, a tandem bicycle, Scotland, zero knowledge of the scientific method, and ended my 25yrs. of customer service washing dishes and working bars/restaurants. Wild.
2) Science and Science Communication, has been the number one most emancipating experience of my life. Second, of course, to having friends and feeling loved. Yet, I still have to remember fractions constantly.
3) I love organizing complex pipelines and problems into easy binary solutions. But I find jigsaws terminally boring (no shade and I know, I should like them. Weird)
4) I sincerely believe I would not have a PhD if it wasn’t for the support of the EM community. Big shout-out to CCPEM, Sjors & Takanori, David Bhella, Christoph Gerle, Daron Standley, & the ChimeraX team for their champion efforts fostering a community of learning and support.
5) I am not sure I will ever process a dataset in anything but C1 ever again. No data set it homogeneous!
6) I am a data literacy advocate. If I could go back and learn a language, it would not be French, German or Spanish. It would be Python. The former being incredible for travelling, socializing with strangers, and enjoying new foods. While the latter now offers an economically remote status, so you can travel, socialize with strangers and eat delicious foods.
7) I was in 2 outstanding trash punk bands while finishing my PhD(in Japan!). I will gladly show you if you ask😊
Please feel free messaging me for a coffee/beer, sharing tips & tricks, or comical life mistakes. I love meeting new people, and learning what (and whom) is out there!
