Trusted teacher: Hi there! I am currently in my third year studying Classics at Oxford University, with extensive maths knowledge up to A-level and experience teaching abroad. I aim to provide flexible and focused lessons that are specifically tailored to the individual needs of the student. Once we’ve discussed the particular areas you’re finding challenging or want to work on, these tutorial sessions can be focused towards discussing particular concepts for better understanding and working through examples together, before moving on to practising exercises and past questions on your own to be marked. If you are working towards an exam, we will also go through exam techniques and effective revision methods, again to suit you! I offer regular feedback and like to set specific goals which students can work towards. Flexibility is central to my approach, and I will adapt our lesson plans to your specific needs and objectives. I have a deep knowledge of Latin and Greek linguistics, and offer tuition to all levels from Beginner, through GCSE and A-Level, up to those studying Classics at university. In our first lesson, we'll get to know each other and discuss your objectives and style of learning - I want to understand how you like to learn, what you find easy, and what you find difficult. And from there, we'll develop a well-prepared, interesting and valuable lesson plan. If learning a language is the scariest thing in the world to you, don't worry! I will always be a friendly, patient and devoted tutor. I have experience tutoring students in 4 different languages over the past 5 years. I understand the importance of sympathy and patience in teaching, and will always be able to slow down or speed up the course of learning as required. Latin and Greek are not easy, but with an experienced and friendly teacher, it can be a brilliant experience! I'm happy to run lessons of any length, and at any frequency. At various times in my life I've personally tried to learn almost 20 different languages (though Latin and Greek remain my favourites!), so I know very well how it feels to be staring at a page full of weird-looking words, and not have a clue where to start. Helping people to cut through the chaos, and see the wild beauty of complex languages like Latin and Greek, is one of the most satisfying feelings I've had through my years of tutoring both children and adults. My mission as a tutor will always be more than just to build your ability in these languages, it will be to build your love of them as well.

English Writing - For improving your abilities in formal and creative contexts (The Hague)

John is an excellent tutor. He goes through the material very carefully and explains every aspect in a clear and understandable way. In my case this was for the subject matter linguistics. John is also a fantastic creative writing tutor and was super helpful to me when I was writing my essays. Good approach of teaching. The teacher also provides you with lots of resources. My lesson will be focused on listening and oral, even if she is teaching by the book, she make sure that i learn how normal french people say words, and their culture.
