I have been teaching Spanish for more than 15 years and I have worked in several institutes and embassies as a teacher and cultural bridge. I am currently living in Berlin where I am developing a personal project and working as a teacher online and in face-to-face classes. Normally I am interested in generating a creative bond with my students and that is why I work with many of them for relatively long periods of time. In the classes I am interested in having a solid grammar structure but the emphasis is on conversation. In this way I feel that a rich and interesting interaction is generated where, honestly, I myself learn from my students‘ experiences and points of view. I am convinced, as a language learner myself, that learning a language is not simply a tool for communication. I feel that to learn another language is to open oneself to another code or way of thinking and perceiving the world. For example, Romance languages (Spanish, Italian, French, etc.) think and feel the world in a different way than Germanic languages (English, German, etc.) I am fascinated by these differences and similarities. Traveling in Japan, I could only admire the beauty of how we represent the world through our language. I feel that in a world that is becoming increasingly depersonalized and where artificial intelligence and algorithms seem to creep into every corner of our lives, maintaining human, imperfect and warm contacts is a form of resistance. In that sense, both in my project with sacred languages such as philosophy and astrology and in language classes, I try to maintain the human dimension and respect the beauty and multidimensionality of communication. Apart from my background in philosophy at university, I am interested in art, politics, culture as an expression of an epoch, psychoanalysis, comparative religions, etc. In this context, with many of my more advanced students we work with texts and films where our interests intersect. For the more beginning classes the emphasis is also on conversation, but with a grammatical framework and progression. That is why I am interested in understanding the students‘ objectives. Whether learning for pleasure or for a trip, to take an international exam or for cultural reasons, I believe that framing the classes in a structure allows the creative to emerge. In my teaching I try to give you the best foundational skills to achieve your musical goals. This means a high level of customization is possible if you have an idea of what direction you want to head down, but I will of course guide you on the way as well. As a bassist my strong suits are Rock, Pop, RnB and Neo Soul but through the years I have recorded and played live shows in a host of different genres (Jazz, Fusion, Reggae, Ska, Hard rock etc) so my teaching is by all means not contained to a few genres, I believe having a good overview over different kinds of music is very important. I am originally from Rotterdam, the Netherlands and have been playing bass since I was 13 years old. I graduated in 2023 with a degree in Electric Bass from BIMM Berlin and have studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston (Summer 2018( and Holland College in Canada (2019-2020). As a session bassist in Berlin I have recorded in many great studios with Grammy award winning and nominated producers and engineers. Apart from this I play for multiple artists and have played shows in venues such as Festsaal Kreuzberg, Columbiatheater, Lido, Badehaus, Maschinenhaus, Kantine Am Berghain, Privatclub and many more.
