I am convinced, as a language learner myself, that learning a language is not simply a tool for communication. I feel that to learn another language is to open oneself to another code or way of thinking and perceiving the world. For example, Romance languages (Spanish, Italian, French, etc.) think and feel the world in a different way than Germanic languages (English, German, etc.) I am fascinated by these differences and similarities. Traveling in Japan, I could only admire the beauty of how we represent the world through our language. I feel that in a world that is becoming increasingly depersonalized and where artificial intelligence and algorithms seem to creep into every corner of our lives, maintaining human, imperfect and warm contacts is a form of resistance. In that sense, both in my project with sacred languages such as philosophy and astrology and in language classes, I try to maintain the human dimension and respect the beauty and multidimensionality of communication. Apart from my background in philosophy at university, I am interested in art, politics, culture as an expression of an epoch, psychoanalysis, comparative religions, etc. In this context, with many of my more advanced students we work with texts and films where our interests intersect. For the more beginning classes the emphasis is also on conversation, but with a grammatical framework and progression. That is why I am interested in understanding the students‘ objectives. As a bassist my strong suits are Rock, Pop, RnB and Neo Soul but through the years I have recorded and played live shows in a host of different genres (Jazz, Fusion, Reggae, Ska, Hard rock etc) so my teaching is by all means not contained to a few genres, I believe having a good overview over different kinds of music is very important. I am originally from Rotterdam, the Netherlands and have been playing bass since I was 13 years old. I graduated in 2023 with a degree in Electric Bass from BIMM Berlin and have studied at Berklee College of Music in Boston (Summer 2018( and Holland College in Canada (2019-2020). As a session bassist in Berlin I have recorded in many great studios with Grammy award winning and nominated producers and engineers. Apart from this I play for multiple artists and have played shows in venues such as Festsaal Kreuzberg, Columbiatheater, Lido, Badehaus, Maschinenhaus, Kantine Am Berghain, Privatclub and many more.
