I am Laura , a Spanish woman living in The Hague. I have been teaching and helping high school students with their homework and study methods since 2014 as a private tutor. I have experience as a language teacher in different schools in Madrid (extracurricular activities) for children between 3 and 10 years old. I work as a Spanish teacher since 2019 in various countries, helping numerous students to improve their speaking, listening and writing skills. I studied Nutrition and Dietetics (4 years bachelor) at Complutense University of Madrid. Later and determined by my love for languages, I completed the BA in Linguistics in Leiden University, following the Brain and Cognition specialization, which focuses in how language and second languages learning works in a neural level. Depending on the goal, the learning or lesson method is different. Normally, the first day I meet the student and we talk about what he or she expects and the topics we need to pay more attention. From that, I organise and structure a learning plan for reaching the desired goals (listening, speaking, writing, etc) or level (A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, C2).

I have taught privately and at language schools like La Scuola Italiana del Greenwich Village in New York and ItalCultura, the school of the Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago. During the first few lessons I will make sure you have the tools to pronounce and identify all the sounds of the Italian language. This step is essential! And it will make everything easier afterwards. When I teach Italian I try to avoid all the things that I hated as a language student. We will use real songs, real literature, do real conversation and storytelling. When you are engaging all your senses it is easier to keep your mind relaxed and to remember new words. You will absorb a way of thinking, not just grammar rules. I speak a bunch of languages so I know a thing or two about how tedious language classes can be. My terrifying French teacher in middle school made us repeat the same fake dialogue from a really bad book ad nauseam, over and over and over again. Some of those dialogues are carved in my brain: “Bonjour, je m’appelle Richard Drapeau, je viens du Canada, je suis Canadien...” When I teach Italian I try to avoid all the things that I hated as a language student. I hold a degree in Lingue e Letterature Straniere (Foreign Languages and Literatures) from Università Roma Tre (equivalent to an American MA) and a Master’s of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts and Media from Columbia College Chicago. I wrote a thesis about translating a long epic poem by W. H. Auden and I tried to ride a horse across America.

I am a CEDILS-certified Italian teacher born and raised in Florence, and I've also been a language student myself for a long time! If you want to be able to interact with Italians quickly, I can give you some tips about correct pronunciation, fundamental grammar, and vocabulary, but also Italian art and popular culture, which I think is fundamental to understanding the mentality and the country that you are going to interact with. I am a native Russian speaker and can teach Russian to English speakers. I can help you to practice grammar, speaking, pronunciation, listening, writing skills. Also can help with learning Russian from the scratch, starting with the alphabet. During my lessons, I primarily teach my students not to be afraid to speak Russian. Before classes, I plan topics on which we can talk to expand our vocabulary, and be able to maintain a conversation on a variety of topics. Also, classes are held in a communication format, so that students learn to understand Russian speech, to be able to ask the questions, reflect on the topic, etc. Depending on the needs of the student, we study the fundamental grammar rules, which are most important for grammatical speech. To consolidate the material, we do various exercises and tests. Usually, these are texts with gaps that need to be filled. We also do oral exercises so that students can apply grammar rules not only in written assignments but also get used to applying them directly in their speech (which is sometimes a problem because we used to forget some rules in our spoken language). Since Russian phonetics is quite complicated, I also select various exercises for diction, adapting them for each student (which is always a lot of fun). I hope to see you on my lessons!

Hello everyone! I am a Georgian who was born in Moscow and lived there for 12 years. Russian is my first language and I speak it fluently. I am a professional English teacher with over 8 years experience in various teaching roles. I have experience of teaching all ages from 3 up to 65+ in group classes or 1-on-1. This class is aimed for anyone who is interested in learning Spanish or Catalan. Italian and Indonesian are not widely spoken languages, however, both the Italian and Indonesian community are spread across the world and I have noticed that many are the mixed Italian and Indonesian families living in the Hague! My classes are not special, they are simply meant for children and adults who wish to have someone who they can talk to and improve either Italian or Indonesian. My classes will “offer” you a friend who can stimulate you to speak the language and learn the everyday language without being particularly ambitious. Sometimes what it counts is to understand the everyday language culture and not being afraid to speak. That’s what you to grasp for my classes.
