Mathematics and science subjects can weigh heavily on your study career during secondary education. It is therefore important to perform well on this. This can be a challenge for many students, especially in the third grade. In my lesson I try to explain the subject matter to students based on their own course, my old course and extra exercises. The ultimate goal is that the students gain a better understanding of their course.

Hi everyone, I am a Belgian student, currently, I'm in my first master's year at the KULeuven. I chose a master's in 'Rehabilitation sciences and physiotherapy specialization musculoskeletal disorders'. During my bachelor years, I developed a very good basic knowledge of science subjects and mathematics: I studied statistics for 3 years, molecular cell biology, chemistry, physics, biomechanics, biochemistry and anatomy. The quality of teaching of both the University of Leuven as the high school I went to (Heilig Hartcollege Tervuren) is something I am very happy/thankful for. I would love to share the education and the knowledge I acquired by supporting and teaching you or your child/teen. I would consider it as a sort of study pathway counseling. As I already have a bachelor's degree in one of the highest-ranked universities in Europe, I have a broad knowledge of quite some subjects. I am a student of TEW at the KULeuven and would like to offer my services to high school students who could use some help outside of school hours. Together with my students, I look for the right study approach to fully understand the courses and I try to present the subject matter in a different way so that my students gain more insight into the subject matter. I myself graduated from the Sint-Albertuscollege in Haasrode with a degree in science mathematics (6 hours) and I was raised perfectly bilingual (Dutch-French). I have several years of experience with tutoring, both to children in the 2nd year of high school and to children who are at the end of their high school and will soon be making the transition to further studies. I lived in the USA twice, as an exchange Student at MIT for a year and as a J1 worker at McDonald's for 3 months. I scored 103 and 112 in the two times I did the TOEFL exam, and I scored at the 99% math percentile in my GRE score. I was born in Brazil, and I am a native Portuguese speaker. I have lived in Leuven for five years, so we can communicate in basic Dutch.

ABOUT THIS LESSON: I offer tutoring in Python programming and mathematics for university and college students. I also support secondary school and primary school students in all scientific subjects. I start by (if available) using your old tests to determine together with you (and possibly your parents) what specific difficulties you have. In addition, we will have a short conversation in which you can explain to me which issues you have experienced as the most difficult and would like to focus more on. My focus is on ensuring that the student is able to find the solution independently, step by step, and I help where necessary by providing mini-tips to get to the next step together. This makes my method much more personalized than standard classroom teaching. When I notice that a student has difficulty independently coming up with the correct editing steps, I create a concise step-by-step plan tailored to that specific subject so that the student begins to see more structure in the learning material. At the same time, I ensure that the underlying theory is thoroughly understood by linking it to self-invented exercises and practical examples from the student's personal environment, which makes learning easier and more lasting. ABOUT NICK: I am a 22-year-old master's student in Commercial Engineering at KU Leuven. I started tutoring my sister, nephews, nieces and friends and I get a lot of satisfaction from improving and helping others when they come to me for help. Because I have been tutoring consistently for 4 years, I have the right resources to present learning material in an understandable way and to strengthen the motivation, concentration and independent study of my students.
