Trusted teacher: FOR WHOM, FOR WHAT: This course aims to provide a framework for the preparation of future students at EPFL. Many students are preparing for the start of the new school year at EPFL, but many of them are lost and don't know where to start. Some drag gaps from gymnasium/college with them, which prevent them from starting to learn/relearn math and physics and prepare well for the start of the school year. In this course, I propose to supervise the student in his preparation. This course is adapted to the level in mathematics (standard and advanced) and physics (standard) of all sections of EPFL*. CONTENTS : The course aims to adapt to the needs of the student. In particular, it is common to: - resume gym/college classes -identify and address remaining gym/college gaps - Fly over new subjects (the goal being not to be surprised when introducing them to the university) -Work on certain subjects in advance -Develop a work strategy and get organized -Share experience/give advice -Present the exam modalities (within the limits of my knowledge) Note that the courses are flexible. For more information on course content, please contact me to discuss. REMARKS : -> This course aims to give a boost to future students at EPFL. It does not in any way guarantee the success of the student (obviously). -> This course is often given in support of the book "Know how in mathematics" -> The course is based on my experience (EPFL, mathematics section). SIZE: The course can be given face-to-face in the Lausanne region (preferably Renens / Ecublens) or Geneva (preferably center) depending on my travel availability (this is to be agreed by message with me directly, this option only appears by default in my schedules available below). Otherwise, the course is generally given by Zoom with screen sharing where I generally write by hand). The notes during the course are sent to the student after the course is completed in PDF format. For more availability, please contact me. Hoping to be able to help you. *except advanced physics (only for the physics section)

Trusted teacher: Hello! I am a student in the last year of a Bachelor in life science at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne and I am offering to help understand the fascinating world of science! The scientific branches and particularly mathematics and physics can represent a challenge during the school learning of the pupil. Often, classical teaching methods may not be suitable for some students who, therefore, risk developing deficiencies in these branches, accompanied by demotivation and fears regarding these subjects. For me, this is regrettable and from my experience, I am convinced that an approach centered on the student and his specific needs allows to improve this perception and to increase the self-confidence of my students. In my courses, I propose to help pupils and students who do not feel comfortable or wish to improve themselves with these themes through three points of approach: - The explanation of the subject by restating the theory and by concentrating on the comprehension thanks to explanations, numerous examples as well as a simplification of the concepts difficult to comprehend. - Exercise assistance, which teaches methods of resolution that can allow students to feel more comfortable in front of statements and to increase their speed in dealing with specific cases. There is rarely only one method to understand and solve the exercises, if some are more effective than others, for me, it is especially important to find the one that will best suit the student's affinities. - Finally, I suggest going back to the basics necessary for understanding the subjects discussed in class. Sometimes, some students have gaps at this level, which hinders the learning of current subjects. By paying particular attention to this point, the support is adapted in the long term so that the pupil can then apprehend the new subjects without experiencing comprehension problems due to basic knowledge not acquired or insufficiently mastered. My level also allows me to help first-year students and future students wishing to integrate a course containing basic sciences such as those of EPFL. Do not hesitate to contact me with any questions, I would answer you with great pleasure!

Welcome to an exciting journey into the enigmatic world of cosmic rays! This high school-level course is designed to introduce you to the captivating realm of cosmic rays, particles which travel vast distances through the cosmos before reaching earth. This course blends hands-on data analysis with a comprehensive understanding of the theory behind these high-energy particles. Throughout this course, you'll delve into the mysteries of cosmic rays, investigating their origins, detection, and interactions with our atmosphere. Engage in practical experiments and data analysis using real cosmic ray data collected from ground-based detectors, unraveling the patterns and characteristics of these elusive particles. The curriculum is divided in a balanced way between theoretical knowledge and practical application. You'll explore fundamental physics concepts essential to understanding cosmic rays, including particle interactions, (very basic) relativity, quantum mechanics, and astrophysics. Lectures, discussions, and interactive sessions will deepen your understanding of these theoretical foundations and their relevance to cosmic ray research. Do not panic! All the theory is presented in a very engaging way, adapted to the technical level to each student. Key Topics: * Introduction to Cosmic Rays: Origins, Composition, and Detection Methods * Introduction to particle physics detection techniques (with real particle detector examples) * Data Collection and Analysis (python or C/C++): Hands-on Experience with Real Cosmic Ray Data * Astrophysical Implications: Cosmic Rays and the Universe * Advanced Topics (for the very enthusiastic): Cosmic ray astrophysics and state-of-the-art detectors used currently in the research world. Class Format: In the basic variant, this course will blend theory lectures with computer-based data analysis. For the very enthusiastic students, there is also a possibility to build their own particle detector. Assessment: Assessment will be based on a combination of individual and group projects, quizzes, data analysis reports, and a final presentation or research paper that showcases your understanding of cosmic rays, both theoretically and practically. Prerequisites: Curiosity! The only pre-requisite for this course is the curiosity of how our universe works, and what can we do as humans to understand it as much as possible! Join me on this cosmic adventure, where theoretical exploration meets empirical investigation, and together, let's unravel the secrets of these cosmic messengers!

Trusted teacher: *****German text below***** About myself: My name is Manuele and I am 30 years old. I'm good-humoured, creative person and if my lab is not blowing up into my face, I'm also very calm and hearty. Currently, I am working as a PhD in an interdisciplinary field of chemistry and physics. I have a Masters degree in chemistry as well as a Bachelors with a major in chemistry and a minor in physics. In the past years, I had the privilege to acquire fundamental knowledge in chemistry, physics and mathematics at a top academic institution. For my achievements, I was honored three times by the faculty of Chemistry with the Werner price and for my dissertation I was awarded the semester price. My Philosophy: My objective is to provide individual approaches to convert weaknesses into strengths and to face challenges with the certainty of success. In the past four years, I have been able to acquire an extensive repertoire of experience in this area. I now try to pass this experience on to my students in the best possible way My personal goal is that students no longer worry after an exam about whether the exam was passed or not, but that they are annoyed if the best possible grade was not achieved. In order to guarantee improved results, I only accept 2 students within the same time period (in English and/or German). I'm looking forward to meeting you!
