Philosophy is much more than a simple method; it's a more general way of positioning ourselves, even a way of life. At its core, it's critical thinking and the ability to see beyond what's left unsaid and unclear, and to find information, question, and arrive at a more nuanced vision of the world. Together we will begin with everyday facts to explore the foundations of philosophy, look for clues in the history of thought and learn to be independent in our critical thinking. I also support the questioning of major texts and problems posed in literature courses, philosophy courses in middle school, and preparation for the Swiss maturity, see prep for university studies. How can we be so categorical about something as subjective as deciding if art is ‘good’ or ‘bad’? Think of it like this: If you’re not any good at carpentry, you can still identify a poorly made coffee table. Basically, what we’re going to try to do is understand how to recognise if an artwork has been responsibly made or not. In the case contemporary art that has been made responsibly, this class will suggest that your kid could not have made it, any more than they could have removed your appendix, designed a suspension bridge or landed a crashing helicopter. In the case of art that has not been made responsibly, then yes, perhaps your kid could have made it.
