About Me
All my students have, under my teaching, experienced drastic leaps in their academic results within a span of only a few months -- all of them clinching distinctions for their national exams (when most of them had at first been failing). My strength as a teacher has always been developing strong bonds with my students, and taking the time to understand their individual struggles and needs. I understand what it's like to not 'get' a subject and it is a genuine joy for me to help students overcome that!

French courses - language and literature - for secondary school students, literature students and adults (FLE)The courses are aimed at high school students, literature students, and adults learning French (FLE). Through courses tailored to their needs, learners will consolidate their French skills, either from a strictly linguistic or literary perspective.
As for the language, we will be able to work on different aspects: grammar, conjugation, syntax rules, written and oral expression.
More experienced learners, in rhetoric and at university, will be able to consolidate their skills in written expression and literary analysis.
It is about progressing realistically and at the learner's own pace, and developing methods that allow for long-term improvement.

German language (or literature) lessons (beginner, intermediate and advanced) from native speakerThis class is for anyone who wishes to learn German from someone with native level skills. Whether it is to learn the basics as a beginner or to hone essay-writing skills. Can comfortably adapt to any curriculum (IB, A-Level, GCSE).
Alternatively, if desired, I can help develop more analytical literary skills and give guidance on how to study German Literature.
In both cases, I prioritise verbal dialogue as well as writing tasks, particularly for more advanced levels.
I am very flexible when it comes to the structure of lessons/their intensity and feel it is usually best to discuss this on an individual basis.

Qualified Italian student giving Latin and Ancient Greek lessons in Edinburgh.I am studying Social Anthropology and Politics at the University of Edinburgh. Classics are one of the biggest interests of mine; I started studying Latin and Ancient Greek languages and literature 6 years ago and I have been teaching for three years. I think studying these languages led me to be more aware of who I am as well as understand what is really worth.
Latin (Ancient greek too) lessons consist of two different parts: grammar and literature.
By studying grammar you are not going to just receive boring notions about the structure of the language, but you are going to deepen processes and rules that form Latin; with this method we are going to discuss about Latin and Greek mindset and then discuss about important themes studied by ancient people in literature. Furthermore, according to your needs and goals, we can exercise on translation of texts.

In my class, students will not only build a strong foundation in Mandarin Chinese, but also develop an appreciation for Chinese culture, literature, and ways of thinking. Whether we are practicing everyday conversation, exploring a traditional tale, or discussing a Chinese poem, I adapt each lesson to fit the learner’s age, level, and interests.
I bring a background in literary studies and a passion for communication to every session. For younger learners, I create playful, engaging lessons that build confidence and curiosity. Poetry & Creative Writing Classes with LouisaWould you love to write, but don't know where to begin? Perhaps you're already writing or studying English/creative writing, and need a hand? Would you benefit from 1-1, tailored support?
I'm a writer and poet, and my experience of tutoring hundreds of people over the past couple of decades has taught me that anyone can write with the right tools, support and encouragement! We all have experiences we can draw on to express ourselves creatively through the written word. Children, young people, and those experiencing challenges often find writing particularly beneficial and enjoyable. I am here to help inspire new and emerging writers by guiding you through the basics of writing, facilitating a deepened enjoyment and understanding of the power of words, and, importantly, supporting you to have confidence in your unique voice.
These interactive, informal, and supportive online classes are aimed at students of any age (above 7 years) who wish to write poetry, short stories, or creative prose (such as life writing). This includes beginners who are keen to learn basic writing skills, and those with some experience wishing to develop their practice and learn more, including students of English and creative writing at school, college or outside of formal education. Although we will touch on key grammatical terms, the focus will be on your creative expression through the written word.
In these classes, which will be tailored according to age, experience, needs, and areas of interest, students will learn the basics of writing short stories, including flash fiction; poetry, including free verse and traditional forms such as Haiku and sonnets; and creative prose, including life writing or short creative essays. You can attend as many classes as you like, and together, we will build your skills and understanding of creative writing, including identifying the stories you want to tell. The classes will be a mix of presentation, 'warm-up' writing activities, discussion, reading and analysing key texts, main writing activities, and redrafting, editing and proof-reading your work.
For those wishing to get published, there will be additional optional support available, such as detailed editing and mentoring advice, as well as hints and tips on developing as a writer.
Bring what you need to me, and we will shape the classes together!
I hold a recent DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check, and parents or guardians of students under 18 years of age are welcome to meet the tutor first, and/or sit in on the classes. I look forward to hearing from you!

French private lessons by university graduate in LettersHolder of a Master's degree in Letters and endowed with a solid experience in private lessons, I provide French lessons for students wishing to:
- consolidate their bases in grammar, spelling
- improve their language skills (allophone students)
- improve their speaking skills (conversation classes)
-profect the written expression
- prepare for ECR exams
- prepare for the written examinations at the end of the studies (maturity, certificate of completion)
- help with the writing of works of maturity (or other works of end of studies), of dissertation
- work on argumentative texts
- acquire a method to analyze literary texts
- learn how to perform bibliographic research
The course material is a Google Docs document that I create in which my explanations, possible links, exercises appear. By reading it regularly, progress will be faster. It can also be used in addition to other documents (files printed by school teachers and/or books) and has many advantages: automatic updating, downloadable on tablets and smartphones, simultaneous monitoring of what is writing.
For help with writing:
The objective is above all to acquire effective tools. The student will thus be able to learn to structure his ideas, argue coherently (and convincingly) and enrich his vocabulary. It is essential for me to have written work from the student between each lesson.
For analyzes of oral literary texts:
In order to optimize the time available (and to put ourselves in conditions closest to oral exams), we choose together an extract from a work that the student will have previously prepared before the lesson. This would take around 20 minutes at most, and ideally just a little before the meeting time. If necessary, I have the habit of taking a paragraph at random which would serve as a basis for analyzing a passage.
For the corrections of end of studies work:
so that the meeting with the student is at the most profitable, I ask him to send me his writings before the meeting.
Apart from my presence with the student, any course involves a preparation time before and after the lesson, including the work that I correct. My goal is to design an individualized course, so I take the time to write detailed comments on corrected work or tips to ensure maximum success for everyone.
For example, an editorial correction can easily be the subject of a detailed commentary of 4 typewritten pages.
For adults (FLE):
In order to optimally prepare the first ones, I take the initiative to inform myself in advance of their objectives / expectations. Whether to practice speaking in everyday life, the professional world or to practice oral presentations, I prepare either PPT or technical sheets in advance that I send by mail ( after booking on the website).
The other alternative is to make a PV of the course that I send (or that I print). Giving importance to keeping a written record on the one hand to better memorize the topics covered, on the other hand to better assimilate the spelling.
Of a general nature, a concrete situation that responds to the learner's needs is the starting point. From this situation, I address the essential grammatical points.
