I have 12 years of teaching experience in 1-1 and group settings for ages 4 to 18, with a number of my students gaining West End success. I can tutor beginners to the piano or classical-converts who are looking to experience jazz by condensing my education down into core principles. This method of learning helps you move away from the books and to start enjoying the piano with more confidence and skill. I teach with a strong emphasis on theory and aural listening and with my resources I can take you through basics to more advanced lessons. I'm also fully equipped to teach music theory classes and to tutor in GCSE and A-Level music (composition, particularly) as well as teaching early level classical piano (up to ABRSM Grade 6). I am a classically trained professional pianist, with 16 years of teaching experiences of all ages and levels. I have many experiences in performing, competitions and accompanying singers/instrumentalists in concerts and in music exams. I am very familiar with the ABRSM exams and I have many successes with students passing ABRSM music (Grade 1-8, and Diploma) and theory exams (Grade 1-5) with very good grades. I can help you whether you are learning the piano for fun, or working towards exams. I prefer teaching online but I can also travel to students homes if they're in north London(depending on location).

I specialize in teaching music theory and piano, especially for songwriters, drawing from my background of classical piano, my MA in songwriting, and my career as a published singer/songwriter. I assign creative exercises as homework, and I try to not let any question unanswered! For instrumentalists, we will look at the piano and some of its different techniques - classical, jazz, accompanying yourself, with focus on what the student actually wants to learn. For songwriters, we will go through music theory basics, and then basic harmony until we will be able to construct own our songs.

I teach for all levels, from children starting from zero to students who want to prepare certifications at the Conservatories, passing through amateurs or simply curious of any age. I firmly believe in the importance of knowing how to read music and this is exactly what I teach first, obviously adapting the method to the age of my students: knowing how to read music is knowing one more language, which, if learned well, won’t ever be forgotten (like riding a bicycle!) and it is an invaluable wealth. Starting from that point I teach the position of the hand, the arm and the whole body at the piano, the fundamentals of the piano technique (giving great importance to the percussive movement of the finger and the distribution of weight), the understanding of musical language, the expression of the personality through the keyboard, the search for touch and knowledge of piano repertoire.

Dear students: My name is Denise and I'm a professional singer with a singing master's degree from Catalonia's Music College (ESMUC) specialized in Historical Singing, Musicology and Music Education. My experience runs mostly in early and classical music with an active performing life, nevertheless I also have the experience and knowledge of popular musical styles such as Latin-American folk, jazz and musicals. As a docent or vocal coach I've collaborate with different academic institutions and private artistic projects, focusing mostly on international students or social integration programs. I have years of experience teaching children, teenagers and adults in both Latin-America and Europe, therefore understanding different appreciation levels and needs.
