Hello, My name is Giorgia. I hold a PhD in Italian from the Department of Romance Studies at UNC-University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I also hold a Ph.D. in Contemporary Philosophy focusing on Italian and French Aesthetics. I worked for fifteen years as a translator from French into Italian. My academic research is interdisciplinary and combines literary criticism and philosophy. My research interests include the relationship between contemporary Italian and French literature, the Italian and French avant-garde movements in literature and film, and the interactions between literature, philosophy, the arts, and film. For seven years, I have taught Italian at the elementary, intermediate, and advanced levels, and also taught a course on Italian cinema. In my teaching, I strive to contribute to improving conversational fluency, refining writing skills, and enriching vocabulary. Through contributions on art, history, politics, daily life, cinema, and Italian literature, I invite students to experience the complexity and richness of Italian culture and language. In addition to being my mother tongue, Italian is a language I love and enjoy teaching. My experience teaching Italian has allowed me to experiment with many different teaching methods, find my own unique teaching style, and, above all, develop teaching activities that have proven very effective with students from the United States, France, and many other countries. I’m a native Italian speaker with a Bachelor's degree in Foreign Languages and Literatures, I studied in particular English, German and Italian didactic. Right now I'm about to take a Master's Degree in Translation for International Relations. Three years ago I started teaching Italian during my university internship and I understood that's what I want to do for a living. Since then I never stopped: I volunteered as an Italian teacher to refugees and I started teaching online courses for those who love and would like to get to know this beautiful language! I also attended a specific course about teaching languages using games and a playful approach for adults. I use a fresh approach to language teaching: I like to adjust my method to my student. I taught to people coming from all around the world and of all ages: from 8 to 71! My method depends on the source language; the starting level; the final goal; in which context the student would like to use Italian, and so on. I like to include games, songs and novels in my lessons, if the student is interested in any of these. Right now I'm located in Italy (Palermo), but in August I'll move to Berlin.

As an Italian Opera singer, I help since many years singers with the right pronunciation of the repertoire they sing, helping them in shaping the language in a clear way, which also helps the singing. Our lesson will involve speaking, pronunciation exercises and singing. We will start the lesson by reading the text and finding the right direction and emphasis. We will focus on the sounds and how to produce them. In the second part of the lesson, we will apply all of the above to the singing!
