I do this through a variety of activities to help you build your skills; including role-playing games (based on real-life situations), Q&A's and games. The goal is to keep you talking! The lessons are mainly given in English, so you can learn and practice English as much as possible during the lesson. Don't worry about making mistakes; By making mistakes and learning from them, you even speak better. Repetition is an important part of my lessons. I often go back to check if you remember what has progressed in previous lessons. I also offer classes aimed at preparing for international English exams such as the IELTS and TOEFL. Before we meet for our lessons, I want to know your reasons for learning English. If you already have some knowledge of English, I will determine your exact level. Once I know your needs, interests and level, I can select the right materials and design the right course for you. We can work with a textbook (plus extra material) or with my own teaching materials. I use videos, slides, worksheets and other teaching materials. If you like, I can also email you exercises and resources so you can continue learning independently. If in doubt, you can always reach me via WhatsApp email. Our lessons can be online (with Zoom, Skype or a platform of your choice), or I can come to your home (in Haarlem, Velserbroek, Santpoort-Zuid, Santport-Noord, Driehuis, Beverwijk, IJmuiden or Overveen). Je leert noten lezen, ritme tappen, beide handen tegelijk gebruiken, hard en zacht spelen, akkoorden herkennen en nog veel meer. Pianospelen is een echte kunst, maar bijna iedereen kan het leren! Als je regelmatig oefent, zul je versteld staan van jezelf. We beginnen met een goede basis, zoals de juiste zit- en handhouding, muziekschrift lezen en in tempo spelen. Voor gevorderde leerlingen ligt de focus op articulatie, dynamiek, frasering en hoe je in een klassieke of populaire stijl speelt. In mijn lessen ligt de nadruk op ritme en expressie. Het gaat er niet om dat je iets supersnel kunt, maar dat je een pianostuk met gevoel en in het juiste ritme kunt spelen. Ik ben nu 41 en speel piano sinds mijn 8e. Ik begon met eenvoudige stukjes en kreeg les van verschillende leraren, waaronder Sherry van Baaren. In Enschede studeerde ik bij de Russische pianist Michail Markov voor de juiste interpretatie van klassieke muziek zoals Mozart-sonates en romantische stukken. Dit alles heeft ertoe geleid dat ik nu zelf pianoles geef en daarnaast ook mijn eigen pianomethode heb geschreven. Ik werk als leraar op een internationale basisschool in Nederland en ben gewend te werken met kinderen van 3-12 jaar. Excellent teaching skills. I had booked private lessons and Ton tailored every session exactly to my needs, and added even more. Beside photography, we discussed day-to-day technical topics such as back-up, storage, organising images, etc. You can see that Ton is used to being in a classroom - very structured and content focused. Excellent communication, always on time and also flexible to reschedule if needed. I will be back with more questions!

I took a package of 5 lessons with Christiaan this summer. I wanted to understand how to use oil paint better. With Christiaan, we rapidly get to the point of the technical aspects of oil paint. He taught me the concept of layering in wet to wet and showed me examples of this in his current artwork. Christiaan is passionate about art and loves teaching! Highly recommended.
