I am stylistically very open and have experience from string quartet to pop songs (with pre-production on Ableton, Garageband etc.) to big band (notation on Sibelius). Dedication and hard work can yield significant progress within a year, enabling you to play simple tunes. However, if you lack a passion for music or the instrument itself, I advise against pursuing it.
