Dutch for beginners and Intermediates at a conversational level

My name is Valérie. As a native speaker of French and Dutch and graduated as an interpreter of French / Dutch I have given with great pleasure French language courses for years to all different kinds of students. The lessons are given in French and mainly focused on speaking the language. They are therefore practically oriented. The lessons are tailor-made because I follow the wishes and goals of the students during the first lesson. I think it is important that the student experiences pleasure in learning the language, it is and stays a way of communication!

I have successfully completed 6 VWO and passed an English Cambridge exam. Currently, I am a law student with a passion for languages, geology and history and I like to share the knowledge - in peace and with full understanding of the student - and together I look for the best method to make this work! I have been working as a tutor for primary and secondary school students for more than 5 years and have experience with people / children who have difficult learning, have little motivation or where the penny has just not yet fallen.

As non-Dutch speaking parents, it is certainly not easy to teach your children Dutch or help them become more fluent in the new language. Who wants some extra exercise for their kids? I would like to help you with that. As their vocabulary expands and their sentences become more fluent, your children will become more confident. A good command of the Dutch language is certainly to their advantage, both now and in the future. Do your children need some help with their homework, especially with their Dutch, then I can help with that. Even as non-native-speaking adults, it is sometimes difficult to have enough exercise. That is why adults who want to make progress in speaking the Dutch language are welcome here! We can practice the everyday language together. Conversing is the best way to learn a new language. Anyone want to learn Persian? Then I am here to help you with that. Here too, I mainly work on communication.

Prepare in an efficient, intensive way for the ITNA (Interuniversity Language Test Dutch), based on tailor-made exercises. We practice together on language in use, grammar and vocabulary, gap texts, structuring exercises, dictation, presentations and argumentation. In these personal sessions I offer children and young people support with study skills, homework guidance and subject-specific tutoring. We work together to improve learning, planning and organizing and to improve results for specific subjects when necessary. We also pay attention to personal development: dealing with motivational problems, fear of failure and increasing self-confidence. The guidance is fully tailored to individual needs, so that every student can develop confidently and successfully – both at school and outside of school. I work from a warm and positive approach, in which growth, independence and enjoyment of learning are central.

In our class we will be relaxed, I will help you with the Dutch conversation, the grammar, reading (like an article or a topic what I will give you). I will help students for beginners-lower-intermediate level. After every lesson I will give you homework for the next lesson. I use several methods which are specially conceived to teach Dutch to people who have a different mother tongue. I really like to use methods out of the ordinary like role games or methods with which you learn while playing. All these adapted to the student's situation of course. As I learned myself a couple of other languages, it is easy for me to detect difficulties a student can encounter and adapt the way of learning. I can teach in English, French, German and Russian.

A qualified language coach with 24 years of experience offers intensive Dutch lessons in a small class or online. I give many Dutch NT2 lessons to expats and in preparation for an integration exam. Specialized in guiding for the State Exam I and II. Special exam coach. In January 2025 I will also start with groups again. We have a great classroom in the center of Rotterdam, near metro station Beurs, lessons with small homogeneous groups (little difference in level). We mainly go for quality and not just running a lesson. I am really involved in the progress of the student. In addition to teaching, I want to do everything to really motivate students to take the next step. That is my strength! You can also choose the online lesson package with Whereby, Teams or Zoom in a comfortable way. Online classes are one-on-one or maximum one-on-two, for better results. My English is fluent, as well as Portuguese and Spanish. I understand the difficulties of overcoming barriers for Latin languages and for expats in general, as I have also been an expat. Online lessons last 75 minutes once a week for 10 weeks to reach a higher level. This is the normal speed. Including exam training (A-2 or Staatsexamen) and exam at the end. Intensive training ? That can also be done in five to ten full days, I am used to giving these very intensive trainings to CEOs or managers who want it faster and more intensive ... all lessons within 3 or 4 weeks. Based on the European system A-1, A-2, B-1, B-2 and C-1 As soon as students want to further improve their knowledge of Dutch, I always advise and coach them to take the State Exam I or II, the only formal Certificate in this country, recognized by employers and universities. I will try to switch to conversation after a few lessons, to put your knowledge into practice as soon as possible. Don't get too caught up in the grammar. Teaching is my ultimate passion and even after 24 years it feels like the first time and students always feel inspired to overcome the obstacles. I also teach you about Dutch social culture, which is intertwined in the course and is strongly related to the language.

We will use practice exams to get you more comfortable with the questions and I'll give you tips. We will also look into the grammar points that are necessary for the exam. We will work on all 4 aspects: speaking skills, writing skills. reading skills and listening skills.
