About Me

It has been more than 20 years since my encounter with the didgeridoo occurred. I feel like it was yesterday ! This was decisive for me and it happened when I wondered what my future was going to be. I was not short of work, but I was tired of evolving in a consumer society that no longer suited me. This situation pushed me to go far, very far !

Australia had been a dream since the age of eight, a distant and inaccessible country that I looked at on my school books, when there was very little talk about it in class. I knew there were weird and dangerous animals. And it is the image of this Australia which intrigued me, which attracted me.

It was at the age of 27, thanks to surfing and the desire to take planes, that I wanted to overcome my fears and embark on the adventure in "Globe-Trotter" mode towards this continent supposedly dangerous and inaccessible... which is a completely preconceived idea when I think about it today. It is certain that we do not play and that we should not risk doing anything ... but that it is in the whole world I think... it is enough to love life to think no ? !

Arrived there in Australia, I discovered the Aboriginal peoples and their O painful history! The approach and contact was not easy and was not done all at once. But over time, I sincerely linked with some of them... as well as with the discovery of rituals, their paintings, traditional instruments and music such as didgeridoo, claves, rhombus, boomerang, dances traditional songs. So I quickly fell in love with this universe, and I never stopped learning more and more about didgeridoo and its origins. It was there that I was surprised to learn that the didgeridoo was only played by the Aboriginal tribes of North Australia, because the termites do not eat the heart of the Eucalyptus trees in the rest of the country.

The return to France was a shock ! I had a hard time leaving the great Australian spaces to relive Paris. This is where the real challenge started, because we had to believe in it deeply and not lose my convictions. My determination overcame criticism, even if it was not always easy to face certain preconceived ideas. I admit that at that time, the fact of having understood that the media here in France, could perhaps help me to extend my vision of this ancestral instrument, which I always found noble, was a real trigger and encouraged and gave me the desire to go further in my approach which is not as easy as one can imagine.

Always learning more and transmitting to others gives me a powerful energy and a positive feeling that allows me to continue on this path.

Today the didgeridoo integrates with other music, poetry, cinema, and festivals take place every summer only for the didgeridoo. Groups are forming and signing on record labels, which is positive !

The didgeridoo is taking an increasingly important place in our western society, slowly but surely. And with a little patience, we will have the opportunity to see beautiful and great concerts with famous and recognized didgeridoo players.

This instrument will have taken 20,000 years to cross the oceans, we will take the time to get to know it !

So if you want to learn more about the Didgeridoo... well I hope to be your man of the situation, quite simply !

Learning Didgeridoo away from everything... it's possible! You can learn the didgeridoo at home now via SKYPE and FACEBOOK Messenger now! And yes, the internet allows incredible things today. You can take live classes around the world with SKYPE, Messenger or all types of APPs allowing live video... which means that we can shorten distances on a global scale ... magical right?! Raphaël invites you to take live didgeridoo lessons with your computer equipped with a camera and a microphone, a smartphone or a tablet... and you will be pleasantly surprised by the quality of the rendering and the closeness that can bring between you and Raphaël with this kind of exercise which could easily become a reflex in the event of a technical blockage on your instrument... a good reason to obtain a real answer with a real solution... and at the right time ! “The time of a lesson is very important! " The duration of a course is 40 minutes because it allows you to capture the right information and the right message. The first five minutes will allow you to assess your level of play with Raphaël. Then you will get to the heart of the matter by directly learning a sound, breathing or rhythmic technique depending on your level of progression... "It is your rigor and love of the instrument that will help you progress!" " The first thing to do during or after the course is to take note of the advice Raphaël gave you because the method he developed can only help you move forward if you follow a minimum of advice. This does not mean that you will have to become a silly and nasty machine, but on the contrary, you will have to work on the practice of your instrument to develop greater sensitivity and openness on your Didgeridoo and yourself. This will make you realize your strengths and your weaknesses. The goal is to raise your awareness even more when you play. The body you are in is a magical laboratory just waiting to be discovered and explored... so follow your instinct with a minimum of tools and everything will work out for the best! As you have understood, each course is different because it will lead you to a greater openness of play and mind... with the help of MP3 albums that I will send to you by Wetransfer to support you, you will be able to also develop listening to the game of other players. This is part of the musical dialect decoding phase throughout your personalized lessons.

Aloha. The Sacred Sound of the ultra-ancient Didgeridoo, is a profoundly powerful experience to be able to play, share, and grow from. My name is Michael, and in 1988 at barely age 18, I was fortunate to spend a great deal of time with Aboriginal Elders deep in the Australian outback. I have played the Didgeridoo onstage live globally, and have given Didgeridoo concerts to the likes of Jimmy Page, Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers, and have opened for Michael Franti and Spearhead, among other international EDM festivals, and events.
