If you don't know any Korean we can start learning the Korean alphabet "Hangul" After that, the class will be focused on your level and pace. I use Korean language school book for the class so you can learn step by step. I give you many chances to speak Korean every lesson so we can practice talking in Korean. I have taught privately and at language schools like La Scuola Italiana del Greenwich Village in New York and ItalCultura, the school of the Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago. And it will make everything easier afterwards. When I teach Italian I try to avoid all the things that I hated as a language student. We will use real songs, real literature, do real conversation and storytelling. When you are engaging all your senses it is easier to keep your mind relaxed and to remember new words. I will customize my materials to your interests, needs and desired pace. And because you are learning from a native Italian you will also learn about Italian culture and history. You will absorb a way of thinking, not just grammar rules. I speak a bunch of languages so I know a thing or two about how tedious language classes can be. My terrifying French teacher in middle school made us repeat the same fake dialogue from a really bad book ad nauseam, over and over and over again. Some of those dialogues are carved in my brain: “Bonjour, je m’appelle Richard Drapeau, je viens du Canada, je suis Canadien...” When I teach Italian I try to avoid all the things that I hated as a language student. I hold a degree in Lingue e Letterature Straniere (Foreign Languages and Literatures) from Università Roma Tre (equivalent to an American MA) and a Master’s of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts and Media from Columbia College Chicago. I wrote a thesis about translating a long epic poem by W. H. Auden and I tried to ride a horse across America.

Lessons based on beginners knowledge leading towards intermediate for appropriate level and understanding. Learn through topic based sessions which include questions, short written passages with a view to understanding the subject better. Focusing on introduction, theory and visual media. My name is Sara and I am Italian and pentalingual! I love languages and since many years I am teaching Italian, Spanish, French, English and Portuguese (I also speak a little Arabic!). Each person has their own pace of learning, so classes will be based on the needs of each student, their interests and their prior knowledge (and if there is no foreknowledge better! We can start this wonderful learning journey together!).

In this course, you will learn a range of linguistic methods and learn the terms used for describing a specific aspect of language or phenomenon (lexis, morphemes, and 'telegraphic stage' to give a few examples). The course requires you to explore your own data using quantitative and qualitative analysis (eg: how frequently are slang phrases used? Are there new auxiliaries being created?). No historical linguistics or literature is involved, but language change or specific traits will be sampled via your own data collection (if this is what is demanded in your course). As many students need to present a "year abroad" dissertation at University level (3rd year in the UK of a Modern Languages or Linguistics Undergraduate course) I can help you to research and structure your year abroad work, both in English (Linguistics) and Romance languages (French, Italian, Spanish). The topics that have arisen from recent discussions with students relate to French Caribbean writing, Italian resistance and reprisals in Rome (Fosse Ardiatine), and Spanish Etica franquista in films (among others).

In a lesson for a volunteer learner, I would prioritise speaking practice, since the pronunciation of certain syllables is essential.

I am a native Spanish teacher and Spanish as a foreign language teacher with experience in remote classes and also as a Spanish and literature teacher in primary and secondary schools.
