Alex - Rotterdam56€
Trusted teacher: Alex has a bachelor's degree from the Rotterdam Codarts conservatory. Besides that he also obtained a diploma in pedagogy at the Amsterdam conservatory. This combination makes it possible for Alex to convey his knowledge of music to his students in a pleasant way. Alex has enough experience, he has more than 10 years of experience in teaching music in music in Rotterdam and its surroundings. He has gained this experience by giving private lessons and classes at various music schools. Alex excels in providing acoustic guitar lessons and music theory lessons. If you are looking for the best guitar lessons in the Rotterdam area, then Alex is the right address. Read more on his website to get an impression of the lessons and the teacher. Alex's priorities through the lessons are development, motivation and interest. It's very important that there is a constructive evolution in the pupil's playing, a constant will to move forward, as well as pieces/songs that inspire him or her. It's important that the pupils learn through an efficient and personal method, but also through their own interest and repertoire (wishlist). In a teaching lesson the focus is put on : - guitar posture, technique and sound - timing and rhythmic feel - strumming and grooves - interpretation - theory and knowledge of music - improvisation - repertoire (on student's wishlist) There are three dimensions to a student's programme : scores, tutorials and coaching. Having a Master's degree in Jazz composition (Rotterdam), Alex designs the scores himself, making arrangements of pieces / songs in an accessible way, along with his method and exercises for guitar technique. The scores are written with a hybrid notation (music notation and tab notation), and with all the information necessary about the right and left hand. After having agreed on the pieces / songs to be worked on, the relevant score is shared and given at the lesson. The teacher goes through it, while he also plays it live to the pupil for even more reach. He then explains what needs to be clarified in order to prepare any homework. Finally, Alex creates a video tutorial about the piece or song that needs to be learned for the next lesson. This gives extra support when practising at home, in order to avoid any doubt and keep motivation up. A report is then created to keep track of what has been done as well as what needs to be worked on, in order to unlock technical requirements and complete a specific repertoire in a constructive and efficient way. Alex teaches in Rotterdam at home or at the pupil's own location ; lessons are in Dutch, English or French, for all ages and levels. The teacher mainly gives live lessons, where he works with his pupils on specific material (technique and repertoire). If for any reason a live lesson can't take place, it is of course possible to follow an online lesson. Lessons last 30 minutes or 45 minutes, weekly or biweekly.

Trusted teacher: Ciao! I have been teaching Italian for the past twelve years. I have taught privately and at language schools like La Scuola Italiana del Greenwich Village in New York and ItalCultura, the school of the Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago. During the first few lessons I will make sure you have the tools to pronounce and identify all the sounds of the Italian language. This step is essential! And it will make everything easier afterwards. When I teach Italian I try to avoid all the things that I hated as a language student. We will use real songs, real literature, do real conversation and storytelling. When you are engaging all your senses it is easier to keep your mind relaxed and to remember new words. I will customize my materials to your interests, needs and desired pace. And because you are learning from a native Italian you will also learn about Italian culture and history. You will absorb a way of thinking, not just grammar rules. I speak a bunch of languages so I know a thing or two about how tedious language classes can be. My terrifying French teacher in middle school made us repeat the same fake dialogue from a really bad book ad nauseam, over and over and over again. Some of those dialogues are carved in my brain: “Bonjour, je m’appelle Richard Drapeau, je viens du Canada, je suis Canadien...” When I teach Italian I try to avoid all the things that I hated as a language student. We will use real songs, real literature, do real conversation and storytelling and we will go on “talking walks” because when you are engaging all your senses it is easier to keep your mind relaxed and to remember new words. I hold a degree in Lingue e Letterature Straniere (Foreign Languages and Literatures) from Università Roma Tre (equivalent to an American MA) and a Master’s of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts and Media from Columbia College Chicago. I wrote a thesis about translating a long epic poem by W. H. Auden and I tried to ride a horse across America.

Trusted teacher: Two worlds I was born within two worlds, the East and the West; the folklore music of central Greece and the classical one. A major factor in the formation of my musicality comes from the tight relation of my family with Greek traditional music. However, music of any kind was always welcome at my home. Inspired by my father who is also a singer, I got involved in choir singing and started piano lessons. Opting for singing was a choice that gave me the freedom to express my mind. R’n’B & Latin At my first piano lessons, I realised how music is put on paper and the importance of it. At about the same time I started singing in the school choir of my secondary school and I kept being between the lead voices of the high school choir. That was the point where I practiced the different voice harmonies and got over my teenage reluctance by singing in front of the public. At the sweet age of 14, I developed a special interest in R’n’B and soul music. Later on, I got involved in the pop and rock scene but suddenly, Latin jazz music attracted my interest. One of the reasons I fell in love with Latin music is because I feel that each emotion is manifested at its maximum glory. Latin music is a mixture of cultures and backgrounds; it is the fusion of European harmony brought to the colonies with African rhythms like Cuban music was brought to New York. Singing as a vocal discovery I consider myself a people’s person. When teaching I have the need to welcome the student into a safe environment of acceptance where music can happen. In order for the student to let go of personal timidness, mutual trust comes with time yet is necessary. I prioritise my students’ needs; teach them the technical aspects they should know so as to develop a healthy instrument but also coach them so that they develop their taste in music. Because I have been singing various styles through my career, I believe I am quite a chameleon of styles (Latin, Brazilian, Jazz, Pop, Greek). In my lessons I find helpful to use some mini percussion so that the singer can establish an internal metronome. I am very supportive with each individuals’ needs and goals, that is why I always make a personal profile of my students and their progress and also ask them to design their personal dream board. All in all, I always use a combo of methods and adapt at the personal needs of the student. Singing for me is always a vocal discovery and this is what I would like to help my students achieve. The essential idea is to develop a healthy instrument with which you can express through the good and bad days. I have been studying with different teachers around the Netherlands (Codarts alumni) and Greece and during this time I have realised that learning can happen anywhere and anytime.

Trusted teacher: Experimentation is an inherent characteristic of electronic music. Nowadays, composing music using technology creates endless creative possibilities that demand the musician/composer to adapt to numerous technical and artistic challenges. Do you like experimenting with sound and making music that does not clearly belong to a particular genre or style? Interested in bringing a fresh perspective and out-of-the-box thinking to your music production? Are you just starting out in electronic music composition and wondering how to develop your own style? This course is just what you need. In this class, you will learn: - how to transform sound using analogue and digital techniques. - how to create sound structures and organise them in a DAW enviroment to compose a piece of music. - how to record, edit and mix sounds using both conventional and experimental techniques. - how to use improvisation in both the context of live performance and composition. - about the theory and practice of free improvisation. - about the history and origins of electronic music and how it affected the music we listen today. - how to document and communicate procedures related to your artistic practice. - how to create an artistic portfolio. Aspiring musicians with a background in any genre can take advantage of this course. A formal education in music or experience with electronic music composition are not required to follow. However, you should be unafraid of experimenting with sound and music technology! Each class is customized to meet the needs of the individual student in an innovative and flexible way! The course can also serve as a preparation for applying to several Dutch educational programmes related to electronic music composition (Institute of Sonology, HKU, ArtEZ, etc.). The class is focused on small assignments that help the student develop a sense of orientation and set goals. Recording, editing, and mixing will be done via the DAW "Reaper," but we can switch to your preferred software at any time. We will use the first lesson to discuss your background, interests, and motivations in order to develop a course structure that is tailored to your needs.

Trusted teacher: No one: ... Hungarians: “Megszentségteleníthetetlenségeskedéseitekért!“ The fact that you have found my profile means that you are intrigued by Hungarian to some extent. Me as a polyglot linguist who is also a native speaker of this exciting and colourful language do share your appreciation. - Are you planning a vacation (or even moving) to Hungary and want to make the most of your experience with being able to communicate with the locals? (Believe me, they will really appreciate it!) - Are you interested because you want to speak to your significant other in their native language, or perhaps to rediscover your own roots? - Do you want to pick up a new challenge and learn a language that is known for its complexity? Whatever your goal, we can reach it together! Despite its notorious reputation among linguists and non-linguists alike, I can help you tame the beast and show you that the language of the Magyars in fact is way more systematic than many (including Hungarians) would like to admit ;) I have tutored over a dozen students in Hungarian from various nationality backgrounds across 3 continents, and I have a proven set of methods/materials for each of the 6 CEFR levels. The class contents are tailored to your own goals, pace and interests. As a rule of thumb, I like to start out with easy-paced classes for which no previous linguistic knowledge is necessary, so you can feel at ease while warming up to Hungarian. But since I am familiar with various layers of the language, we can also take a step forward and dive into more spicy topics such as etymology, descriptive grammar, poetry (you name it) if you are interested. In any case, you can expect a structured approach with clear and doable aims, lots of first-hand cultural notes and personalised home assignments that help your progress. If you want to start to learn Hungarian, don’t hesitate to send me a mail!

Experimental electronic music composition / Free improvisation (theory & practice) (Rotterdam)
Yannis
We just have started to work with Yannis, but I am really happy about how we progress and feel inspired and looking forward to future lectures. Yannis teaches me to develop a vision on how to approach working with sound, while recording, processing and using it in electronic composition. I would say he is opening my mind in a way toward the analysing a character of sound as a compositional element. I like that lessons are not only just about a particular technique (and there are so many to learn from Yannis), but about developing a workflow and a mindset. Examples from historical electronic pieces to listen and analyse from legendary electroacoustic composers are really inspirational. After each lesson there is a home task and in the following lecture there is an analysis of the results and based on that Yannis gives lessons on what needs to be changed, improved, pay attention to etc, in order to develop compositional skills. I highly recommend Yannis as a teacher, if you are into modern experimental electroacoustic composition and improvisation.

Fabian
Fabian is an excellent tutor. My daughter needed to pass the CCVX and Boswell Beta exams in Chemistry to qualify for admission at a Dutch University after having completed high school in the United States. Fabian was able to explain complex ideas in a simplified manner and created a comfortable learning environment for my daughter to thrive in. He adapted his teaching to her learning style so she was able to really engage with what was being taught. The result was her successfully passing both exams this summer and subsequently being admitted to the university. She is now in her first semester at the university and feeling confident and thankful for Fabian's support in getting her there!
