I am a professional viola player from Estonia, currently living in Antwerpen. I have studied in multiple conservatories in Europe and have been a member of the Estonian National Symphony Orchestra. I enjoy working with children and I have experience teaching toddlers violin from the age of 3. Of course at that age it's more about the discovery of the sound and rhythm in our bodies in general 😊 I have also taught adults and I must say that some of my best conversations and connections have been made through teaching music to grown ups who want to learn something for themselves. I have had total beginners as well as adults who once studied at a music school and had quit for various reasons. If you are already a student who just needs some support in technique/general music ideas, then I'm also very happy to help. I have been guided by many kind and knowledgeable teachers and I would love to share what I've learned over the years. Hi! My name is Charlie and I'm currently a member of the Opera Ballet Vlaanderen Orchestra. Teaching has been the foundation of my musical life for over a decade. My teaching studio has hosted a private studio in Oslo, New York, Connecticut and now Antwerp. While living in New York I was the viola and violin professor at Pluckd Studio where I helped prepare students for music festivals, auditions and to establish a sound foundational approach to instrumental playing. While a student at Juilliard, I coached students in Juilliard’s Pre-College/MAP program and helped lead children’s concerts in Chicago, Austin, New York and Oslo. Whether you are a beginner, conservatory student or young professional, you can expect a passionate and attentive lesson plan that will help you achieve your goals. As a orchestra musician since long time, I would like to offer help and training for orchestra auditions. I have been learning the violin and piano since 5 years old, and am currently taking a bachelor's in Music Performance in Violin, at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp. Students of any age are welcome, and I have special experience with beginner and younger students, having given a lot of lessons in piano and music theory. I teach in English, Portuguese, Spanish, and basic Dutch. The individual violin lessons are personalized and tailored to the progress and learning ability of each student. Emphasis is placed on developing good posture and ease of movement at the early stage. We will then continue to revise and enhance technique while taking on a more challenging repertoire as they progress. Music theory is very important for anyone looking to learn an instrument! It helps broaden an understanding of the instrument and will also help you progress faster! If you are looking to do ABRSM instrumental exams, you will need to pass grade 5 music theory in order to progress to grade 6 in your instrumental exams, therefore I will be able to guide you to passing your grade 5 theory paper and beyond. I am also a professional freelance musician and conductor, for anyone interested in conducting, we can discuss how to approach a score in relation to this.

With 27 years of experience as a violin teacher, artist and composer, I transmit my love of music in a creative, playful and holistic way. I have developed a method that adapts to each student according to their needs, levels and desires. I attach great importance to creating a caring and relaxed atmosphere where the student can flourish and develop both a solid technique and learn self-confidence. We will also discuss how to work efficiently and calmly and we will develop the qualities necessary to express yourself freely with your instrument. We will talk about musicality, physical well-being (the importance of breathing!), attentive listening and we will take the time to explore while having fun. If necessary, the basics of music theory will be learned gradually. Although I have a classical background I enjoy teaching a variety of music (Celtic, folk, klezmer, tango, jazz, films...) and I encourage my students to discover the most beautiful melodies in the repertoire and sometimes even to improvise or compose together.
