It is a class focused on developing the skills with the guitar and also with singing if the student wants to. Where we will cover the technique with the instrument learning to play the songs chosen by the student, that way you can learn the songs you love the most. For the experienced students we can start composing. Instead of just playing boring technical exercises, from beginner to advanced you will learn all the basics and most important I will teach you the tools to identify any chord on the guitar, you can play and sing at the same time and learn any song you want from the chords.

I teach for all levels, from children starting from zero to students who want to prepare certifications at the Conservatories, passing through amateurs or simply curious of any age. I firmly believe in the importance of knowing how to read music and this is exactly what I teach first, obviously adapting the method to the age of my students: knowing how to read music is knowing one more language, which, if learned well, won’t ever be forgotten (like riding a bicycle!) and it is an invaluable wealth. Starting from that point I teach the position of the hand, the arm and the whole body at the piano, the fundamentals of the piano technique (giving great importance to the percussive movement of the finger and the distribution of weight), the understanding of musical language, the expression of the personality through the keyboard, the search for touch and knowledge of piano repertoire.

Welcome to my piano teaching studio! I am a professional pianist offering private piano and theory lessons for students of all levels. As a pianist with over 14 years of teaching experience in Europe and the USA, as well as over 23 years of playing/performing, I enjoy motivating my students with music of their own preferred style and interest, whether that be classical or contemporary. My main goal is to promote a positive experience and love for music-making during the learning process. If the student is interested in a more structured approach, I guide preparation for grades 1-8 of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) piano and music theory exams where my students consistently receive highest marks. I also have successful experience preparing students for conservatory entrance auditions, masterclasses, and competitions in the Europe, the USA, India, and Canada. We have class concerts at Pianos Maene for interested students twice per year. I am happy to provide either a more relaxed or a serious approach to learning piano, we simply need to discuss the personal goals and preferences of each student. My own studies are as follows: I have obtained two postgraduate performance degrees at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp: "Concertsoloist" in Piano Performance and "Chamber Music” (under the guidance of esteemed professor Sergei Edelmann). Prior to this, I received my Bachelor and Masters degrees in Piano Performance/Music from the University of Minnesota - Minneapolis (with Prof. Lydia Artymiw) and Texas Christian University, Fort Worth (with Dr. Tamas Ungar). My experience includes collaboration with many different instrumentalists and singers, performing as a soloist and collaborative member in several orchestras, and receiving top prizes in several competitions. While maintaining my performance and recording career in Belgium at present, I am developing my private music studio in central Antwerp and look forward to meeting new students.

Ik geef privé-pianolessen voor alle niveaus en stijlen (klassiek, jazz, latin, new age, pop...), en ook muziektheorie-, compositie- en improvisatielessen. Mijn lessen onderscheiden zich door hun dynamiek, praktische aanpak en aanpassing aan de behoeften en interesses van de student. Hey! Mijn naam is Richard en ik geef gitaarles/ muziektheorie aan iedereen die het nodig heeft! Voor gitaar is het belangrijk dat je in een aangename omgeving jezelf kan verbeteren op een leuke manier waar jouw interesses centraal staan. Wil je je verdiepen in een bepaalde stijl? Wil je een eigen sound creëren op je gitaar aan de hand van amps, pedalen, ...? Daar kan ik je allemaal mee verderhelpen! Een kennis van notenleer of muziektheorie is niet vereist, we kunnen dit wel altijd in de les behandelen indien je dit wilt, maar dat is zeker niet verplicht ;) Zelf ben ik student aan het conservatorium te Gent en speel ik al gitaar sinds mijn 9 jaar. Sinds enkele jaren speel ik in professionele bands waarmee ik onderandere bijvoorbeeld op suikerrock heb kunnen spelen. Naast mijn werk in bands ben ik beschikbaar als sessiemuzikant, bands kunnen me dus vragen om mee te spelen voor een of meerdere optredens. Meestal is dit last minute waardoor mijn kunsten als zichtlezer zeer goed zijn, bovendien zorgt dit ervoor dat ik thuis ben van alle stijlen. De lessen zouden doorgaan bij mij thuis te Mol of via webcam. Indien nodig kunnen we ook altijd iets anders afspreken. Laat me zeker iets weten als je nog vragen hebt, dan antwoord ik zo snel mogelijk. tot snel! From my childhood I have been studying music and art: sang in choir and solo, played piano, painted, studied music history and literature, solfeggio. Later in college I have also learned choir conducting, had ensemble and choir singing lessons, cultural studies. During last year in university I had pedagogy practice at university and at private art school (where I worked as a music tutor before the war - piano, voice). I truly enjoyed working with students. They all were different age (8 - 40+ years old) and level. But all were very interesting and work was pleasant. My education was very various: my core subjects were conducting, choir, voice, piano. So it allowed me to work with children, teens and adults with quite wide range of interests and needs: some students needed/wanted to learn particular composition(s), sometimes pop songs arrangements, some were interested in “introduction” to the music, some wanted to renew skills they gained in their childhood and continue their journey to the music world. In addition I prepared presentations (which contained information about cultural and historical background and musical and character/art analysis). So after graduation from choir conducting faculty (which allowed me to deepen my knowledge in many important compatible branches) I concentrated on studying classical singing and piano, expanded my cultural studies and analysis knowledge, practiced solfeggio and harmony.

Pour les débutants, j'utilise les livres de la méthode Alfred pour les concepts de base, et pour la technique du piano classique et jazz, j'utilise les livres ABRSM (niveaux 1 à 8). Si mon élève estime pouvoir mieux apprendre avec d'autres livres, j'adapterai volontiers mes stratégies pédagogiques à ses besoins. En plus des manuels ci-dessous, j'utilise de nombreux supports pédagogiques adaptés aux centres d'intérêt des élèves. Je m'efforce également d'enseigner leurs chansons préférées le plus tôt possible. J'aime expliquer et démontrer clairement la technique pianistique. Ainsi, les élèves peuvent appliquer les informations à des passages similaires de tous genres musicaux.
