I'm Keith, a professional jazz singer, composer, and educator with over 12 years of experience. I hold a degree in Jazz Vocals from the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague, where I graduated in 2022. Before moving to the Netherlands, I spent six years as the resident artist with an acclaimed a cappella theater group in Hong Kong. My extensive background includes coaching amateur a cappella groups, teaching vocal lessons in Hong Kong’s secondary schools, and providing choir lessons at the European School The Hague since 2021. My diverse experience ensures that I can help you refine your singing abilities, regardless of your current level. Each lesson is tailored to your individual needs, ensuring steady progress. Elam graduated from the New school for Jazz and Contemporary music, and has had the opportunity to play and perform with distinguished artists such as Abraham Burton, Eric McPherson, David Bryant, Duane Eubanks, Jason Palmer, Joel Ross, Nasheet Waits, Will Sellenraad, Chris Beck, David Virelles, Donald Edwards, Mike DiRubbo, George Coleman Jr., Jonathan Voltzok, Yuval Cohen, Spike Wilner, Anthony Pinciotti, Ben Solomon, Don Hahn, Tom Oren and others. Elam has performed internationally in Bern, Berlin, Belgrade, Paris, Marseille, Vienna, Lublijana, Klagenfurt, Rostov, Zagreb, Krakow, Prague, Vigo and other places. Elam has performed at the Red Sea Jazz Festival twice with the Yuval Cohen Sextet and the JT and the magnificent soul big band, as well as at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, Marseille Jazz festival, Bern Jazz Festival, Tel Aviv Jazz festival, Smalls Jazz club, Mezzrow, Duc des Lombards, Cangas Jazz Festival and others. Elam has had the opportunity to record as a sideman with such artists as Eric McPherson, Will Sellenraad, Omer Leshem, Tom Oren, Hillai Govreen and many others. I studied Jazz at Berklee College of Music. I was a classic pianist. It was not easy to adjust my classic chord progression to Jazz progression. There must be many people struggling to play jazz with classic music fingering. I can help you to make your sounds like real jazz music. Playing piano is so much fun, When you play, you got to sing.and make it more fun. Most of the piano course start with white keys in C major. My lesson starts with F#/Gb scale which is the pentatonic scale. You won't have any fear to deal with black keys. You are not supposed to count music. You need to feel it, groove it and enjoy it. However, diving into the wonders of the piano/keyboard can be a bit overwhelming... and that is where I come in! This course is for anyone from complete beginners to advanced students, from lessons that focus completely on classical music to lessons that include or focus on the basics of jazz/pop. If you like to sing, we can also work on the basics of jazz/pop vocal, so you can learn to accompany yourself at the piano. In our lessons, technique will be an inherent part of the training, as well as analysis, basic music theory, and efficient ways of practicing music. In a nutshell, I am a professional pianist, vocalist, lyricist and blogger. Since 2014, I have taught in various music schools, teaching piano, ensemble, jazz vocal, and solfege. On a more elaborate note, I obtained my Master of Arts in classical piano, summa cum laude, at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent (KASK) in 2017, and studied as a Fulbrighter at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington USA during the 2019-2020 academic year. Every day, I strive to become a better musician and person, and I aim to transfer that passion to my students.
