Viola and Violin Lessons: Technique, Improv, and a Healthy Relationship with your Instrument
This course is for viola and violin students from the beginner through the high school level, and any age from 5-99! My goal is for my students to foster a healthy and long-term relationship with their instrument. The course focuses on practicing and truly understanding technique, with an emphasis on listening. Weekly assignments tend to include technical exercises, scales, and classical pieces of the student's choice. Basic improvisation is also an interest of mine and, I find, a valuable experience for my string students.
I believe repertoire is largely a matter of student taste. Students of mine have learned pieces in the Suzuki books and other classical repertoire volumes, but have also learned pop and fiddle songs according to their interest.
I hold a Bachelor's degree in Violin Performance from the University of Puget Sound, where I graduated in 2015 before moving to Vienna to study privately for three years. I am currently on hiatus from a Master of Viola Performance degree at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague . I have been teaching violin intermittently since 2009.
While my musical education is classical, my performance interests are much wider. I have performed jazz and pop improv, and am currently exploring how hip hop can be implemented on the viola and violin.

About Me
Hello! My name is Zachary and I have a passion for music and languages.I hold a degree in violin performance, with a minor in German from a small private university in the United States. After graduating in 2015, I decided to pursue my musical and lingual endeavors in Austria. In summer 2018 I moved to the Netherlands to pursue a Master's degree in viola performance at the Royal Conservatoire in the Hague, where I am underway learning Dutch as well.
While living in Austria I developed my understanding of and fluency in German, speaking every day, reading books, and practicing with my Austrian girlfriend and her family. To finance my studies I have been teaching English in various settings and to various age groups. I have taught students aged 10-20 in a classroom setting throughout Austria, and have babysat and taught children aged 4-11.
My interest in the German language, as well as my teaching method, centers around grammatical understanding and training combined with vocabulary en masse. I believe anyone has the ability to reach English or German proficiency within two years, if not sooner. It is only a matter of putting in the time to learn the necessary vocabulary and having the right tutor or teacher to clarify grammatical concepts. I look forward to helping you on your path!

What I enjoy most about my lessons with Zachary is how personable he is. You will not find a more patient or kinder instructor. For me, I decided that I wanted to learn how to play the violin later in life. I have never played an instrument my entire life. Zachary did not make me feel like my new start was impossible and he does not patronize. These are things that I have encountered from teachers in the past. Zachary meets you where you are in your abilities and helps you realize your potential. He is always willing to go the extra mile to help you on your journey. I highly recommend Zachary as a teacher if you are beginner to the most advanced levels. I look forward to each session! If you’ve read this far, stop what you’re doing and book him.

Violin lessons, music theory, musical improvisation, chamber music, musical awakeningWith 27 years of experience as a violin teacher, artist and composer, I transmit my love of music in a creative, playful and holistic way.
I have developed a method that adapts to each student according to their needs, levels and desires.
I attach great importance to creating a caring and relaxed atmosphere where the student can flourish and develop both a solid technique and learn self-confidence. We will also discuss how to work efficiently and calmly and we will develop the qualities necessary to express yourself freely with your instrument. We will talk about musicality, physical well-being (the importance of breathing!), attentive listening and we will take the time to explore while having fun.
If necessary, the basics of music theory will be learned gradually.
Although I have a classical background I enjoy teaching a variety of music (Celtic, folk, klezmer, tango, jazz, films...) and I encourage my students to discover the most beautiful melodies in the repertoire and sometimes even to improvise or compose together. I often play chamber music (piano/violin) or violin duets with my students.
My course is aimed at anyone who has the time to work on their instrument, children from 4 or 5 years old, adolescents, seasoned amateurs, beginners or advanced adults...
Do not hesitate to contact me for any additional information.
I look forward to meeting you very soon!

Violin Classes, Piano Classes, and Music Theory ClassesI have been teaching violin, piano, and music theory for over 10 years, during which I have developed a comprehensive understanding
of music education and honed my ability to inspire and motivate students. My undergraduate and masters degrees in Music from
Berklee College of Music and Trinity College Dublin provided a solid foundation in both music theory and performance, which I have
built upon through extensive practical teaching experience. Over the years, I have had the privilege of working with students of various
ages and abilities, from beginners to advanced learners, and have tailored my teaching methods to suit their individual needs. I am
deeply passionate about creating a positive, engaging learning environment where students can discover the joy of music and develop
their musical skills. I foster an inclusive classroom atmosphere that encourages students to explore their creativity while ensuring that
every learner feels supported and valued, regardless of their background or ability

- Pitch and Rhythm: recognize and notate pitches on all strings, experience diverse rhythms and meters.
- Musical Vocabulary: basic musical terms and symbols.
- Making music: learning to express your musicality through understanding form, dynamics, tempo and phrasing.
- Repertoire: literature of various composers, understanding their style and of the epoch of theirs.

Violin or piano lessons to inspire, balancing technique and musicalityI aim to strike a balance as much as possible between teaching technical skills and musicality, as of course there cannot be one without the other when learning an instrument. Lessons are a mixture of teaching and demonstrating correct posture, finger patterns or body movements, and teaching and engaging a learner with rhythm, pitch and melody, and then combining them together.
I am a firm believer in tackling one aspect at a time in lessons and gradually combining it with another aspect of playing. I often include activities such as playing a note and asking the student to match my pitch or sound quality, or including musical games that can develop musical memory and rhythm.
The most important aspect of learning any instrument is of course the music! Aiming to help a student find music (or if they have ideas they are welcome to bring them along!) that they love and find absorbing - this can be any genre, as long as it has a tune! I have a variety of books of different levels that I can use to help students find styles that are fun and enjoyable for them. There are technical things that need to be worked on in playing any instrument - but of fundamental importance is that the student has a feel for the music they play and a musical idea of what the end goal of any piece is.

Professional violinist is giving lessons of violin online! Learn to play violin and enjoy every lesson! 😊In this violin course you will learn a foundation in learning one of the most rewarding instruments in a fun and relaxed atmosphere.
Grip the bow, hold the violin, have the perfect hand position and enjoy playing the strings while learning how to read the notes, the violin rhythm and technique.
Students will generally learn better if they feel a connection developing with their teacher, whether that’s through humour, showing care about their development, or making sure teacher devote time equally to all students when in a group.
You will not regret. 😊

Violin class, learn about body awareness and relaxed postureTrough the course of my education period and in my professional life I have stumbled upon a lot of issues and difficulties I needed to figure out how to solve. Studying with multiple professors and going to private lessons gave me (and still is) different pieces of the puzzle and together with my own observations, I started to understand it is really about knowing how things operate and giving it some love and practice. I want to share everything I know to help you become a great violin player.
The classes will depend on what you want and need at the moment, it can be tehnical excercizes, posture, making you more aware and relaxed in general and/or repertoire directly, we will discuss it together and make it work for you!
