About Me

Translated by Google. Click to view original.
Born in 1990, Zacharie grew up in Toulon in the south of France. He discovered jazz as a teenager, which pushed him to enter the Toulon Conservatory where he was taught for four years by trumpeter Nicolas Folmer.

After passing his diploma (DEM) Zacharie headed to Paris where he perfected his skills at the conservatory in the saxophone classes of Nicolas Dary then Jean-Charles Richard.
In Paris, the very heterogeneous musical landscape allows him to satisfy the passion he maintains for all jazz music and to refine his tastes and his future musical directions.

Driven by curiosity and the desire to multiply experiences, he then decided to embark on a new adventure by studying at the Haute Ecole de Musique de Lausanne. During his years in Switzerland he studied saxophone with Robert Bonisolo and Nat Su, composition and arrangement with Emil Spanyi and Balkan music with double bassist Bänz Oester. There, Zacharie will have decisive encounters in his career, and will have the chance to play with incredible musicians: Nathan Vandenbulcke, Yves Marcotte, Bänz Oester, Edwin Correia, Malcolm Braff, Samuel Dühsler... It is also in Lausanne, the Kolmoset trio was born, which he co-directs and for which he writes a large part of the repertoire. Kolmoset allowed him to materialize years of introspective work, refining his influences and leading him to work on compositional principles and personal playing modes. The trio will win first prize at the Jazz springboard in Porquerolles, which will allow them to record a first album released in February 2020.

Hungry for jazz and the multitude of its branches, Zacharie feeds himself and finds inspiration both from the musicians of various generations with whom he has the chance to play and through the incessant listening of his masters: Lester Young, Ornette Coleman, Wayne Shorter, Charlie Haden, Miles Davis, Dewey Redman, Jakob Bro, Bill McHenry, Chris Speed... He thus imagines his compositions and the sound of his saxophone through a specific identity corresponding to his sonic desires of freedom, transgression, lyricism and rootedness in the love of the sound of its masters.

Zacharie now resides in Lyon where he continues to carry out his various projects.

I’m currently looking for a couple of private saxophone and/or composition students who are keen to develop their skills in a supportive and engaging environment. Saxophone Lessons: With a strong background in Jazz and improvised music, I offer saxophone lessons tailored to each student’s needs—whether you’re preparing for ABRSM or Royal College exams (or other equivalent examination boards), exploring jazz improvisation, or just playing for fun. As a performer, I’ve played at major festivals and venues across the UK, USA & Europe such as Glastonbury Festival (UK, SXSW (USA) and Paris Jazz Festival (FR). I am still active as a touring band-leader/artist and I bring that real-world experience into my teaching. Composition Lessons: As a classical composer, my work spans orchestral, chamber, and jazz ensemble writing, with commissions from leading arts organisations and orchestras - recent commissions include the London Symphony Orchestra and BBC Philharmonic. My lessons focus on notation, orchestration, and arranging—whether you’re composing for small ensembles or larger-scale works. I hold a BMus Hons degree in composition from Trinity Laban Conservatoire (London) where I studied with American composer Stephen Montague and British composer Andrew Poppy. Composition lessons I am able to teach both in-person and online via Zoom. If you're interested or have any questions, feel free to get in touch!
