Understanding Shakespeare: Monologues, Duologues, Sonnets

Gain confidence in interpreting and understanding Shakespearean text, whether for studying or for performance purposes. Together we will break down and analyse the text in order to find the meaning and the flow, and demystify the whole idea of Shakespearean 'language'.
I can help with understanding Shakespeare for GCSE, A Level, for LAMDA examinations, drama school auditions, or any other performance.
I have a background in English Literature, as well as a foundation course from Oxford School of Drama, a CertHE in Theatre Arts from East15, and the experience of many Shakespeare performances.

About Me

I'm a friendly person who is passionate about Shakespeare and helping others to find the joy and meaning in his language. I like to keep lessons informal, all questions are allowed, it is a judgement free zone! I use techniques that I learnt whilst at drama school to break down the text and better understand it. I enjoy passing on my knowledge, understanding that everyone learns differently, and hope to create a comfortable environment to increase confidence in studying Shakespeare, and his contemporaries. While I am currently running classes on Shakespeare, I am available to help with all types of play text from across the centuries.

Education

I hold a CertHE in Theatre Arts from East15 Acting School, and a Foundation in Musical Theatre from The Oxford School of Drama. I also have a background in studying English Literature.

Experience / Qualifications

Credits include:
Rosaline in Love's Labours Lost
Hero in Much Ado About Nothing
Prince Edward in Henry VI
Cleopatra in Anthony and Cleopatra

Behind the Scenes of You: Acting for Self-Discovery
Ever wonder what’s going on behind the scenes of you? This class uses the tools of acting — voice, movement, presence, and play — to help you explore who you are, how you show up, and how you connect with others. Designed for amateurs and the curious-at-heart, this isn’t about performing for an audience — it’s about discovering new sides of yourself in a safe, creative space. Through guided improvisations, character work, and reflection, you’ll build self-awareness, confidence, and communication skills that show up in real life — from relationships to leadership to simply feeling more grounded in who you are. No experience needed. Just bring your curiosity and a willingness to explore.

I have self-published three books, and I am currently working on another novel. I can tutor within the areas of literature, poetry and creative writing, and I'm keen to guide and assist anyone of any age or level. I know from experience the elevation of finding those hidden keys lodged somewhere in the mind, keys that open doors to knew areas of insight and growth in the often daunting act of writing. I'll cater the lesson to you and strive to push you to find them, to harness your sensibility and manifest it onto the page, and to bring light to your words.

CINEMA, ACTING, IMPROVISATION WORKSHOPS - - -
These sessions allow the development of skills and knowledge of the trade, with the game facing the camera, familiarization with the audiovisual environment and the camera tool, in the art of acting. Your inventiveness and your uniqueness being at the center of your training, it is a question of dwelling on the objective criteria, such as the voice, the use of the body, the relationship with the partner, the capacity to occupy the space. But it is also the singularity and the commitment that are decisive. The objective of this training is to be able to: - Analyze and dissect a text - Create, develop and embody a character - Understand the artistic and technical writings of a film or a play - Create, cultivate and develop one's artistic identity and singularity (...) Through simulations and role-playing, the association between theory and practice makes it possible to achieve its objectives. PLACES : - Locations: Geneva - Lausanne - Friborg - Neuchâtel - Montreux - Basel - Sion - Sierre - Morges - Bienne. But currently and until further notice, only by videoconference in accordance with national recommendations on Covid. These sessions, for which you have asked me, also seem to be perfectly unanimous since they arouse a certain enthusiasm (and a certain enthusiasm). Indeed, they have the advantage of face-to-face sessions (ex: quality of the interaction), without its disadvantages (ex: loss of travel time) with additional advantages (ex: the entire session transcribed in writing on the chat). That is why, at your request, I continue to offer this option. - As other people do regularly, you can also please your loved ones by offering gift vouchers available all year round. THE TRAINER From a Grande Ecole post-preparatory class in France & Ivy League University in the United States, our teacher has specialized and has worked for more than 14 years in the field, in international establishments, intervening in forums and conferences. CONTACT / PROGRAM A la carte program: evaluated and adapted to each need.

✅IMPROVISATION, CREATIVITY, PUBLIC SPEAKING, COMMUNICATION, THEATRALIZATION: A WHOLE SUBTLE UNIVERSE TO EXPLORE (THE ART OF STORYTELLING...)
✓ Improvisation is the art of composing within the framework of a role play, without being overplayed so as not to lose credibility, by taking pleasure and appearing convinced (because communication does not consist, for example, of having confidence, but of appearing confident). It helps with a wide range of skills (imagination, emotional faculties, physical expressiveness, vocal projection, clarity of speech, interpretation, improvisation, observation, emulation, stage combat...) to make public speaking, communication , the theatricalization enhanced by the stage space and the play of the actor - improviser. ✓ Your inventiveness, singularity, commitment and signature being at the center of this training, it is about giving you the techniques to improvise, create, stage, while showing confidence and conviction to your interlocutors, in the private sphere or of the professional. ✓ So how can you also confront your shyness or lack of (relative) self-confidence by surpassing yourself by moving forward? ➤ Express yourself with your body, your emotions, your ideas to mobilize your abilities and your creative energy ➤ Explore your path to personal expression in complete freedom and security by overcoming your fears of expressing yourself in public ➤ Activate flexibility of mind, particularly by practicing active listening ➤ Develop your creativity and imagination while overcoming your shyness, developing your speaking, listening and responding skills ➤ Anchor lasting resources such as letting go, leaving one's comfort zone thanks to a caring framework and personalized modules/exercises In application: For example, awareness raising and introduction to the Art of Storytelling have several objectives: Storytelling in public, Composing a repertoire of stories, Organizing a collective show, Games and bringing emotions into play (...). These theoretical training and practical training sessions (story structure, voice, memory, diction, management of stage fright, etc.). It is a question of going through the history of the tale (origin, different styles of tale, difference between tale and story), the art of telling (work on the voice, the body, the imagination), the tale and the child (importance of the story for the overall development of the child, resource of the imagination, difference between reading and telling) ...: in short, the intention of this course is to make you want even more, to better tell stories Open to all those interested in the story (parents, teachers, animators, educators ...), these sessions can also be offered to the person of your choice. With the program, for this example of storytelling art in particular: ✓ Explore and experience the art of storytelling and discover its hidden sides ✓ Express yourself with your body, your emotions, your ideas, play with situations (...) ✓ Mobilize your capacities and creative energy ✓ Open interior spaces of reverie ✓ Explore your path of personal expression in complete freedom and security ✓ Overcome your fear of public speaking ✓ Make room for your imagination, Develop your creativity ✓ Activate flexibility of mind, Practice active listening ✓ Cooperate, create, play down The art of storytelling therefore allows you to develop your creativity and imagination, because you are both a director and an actor. It also allows you to overcome shyness and develop speaking, listening and responding skills. Each person evolves at their own pace and uses their sense of creativity. Objective: to anchor sustainable resources such as letting go, creativity, presence or self-confidence. In short, this artistic discipline will accompany you in your personal development and will help you get out of your comfort zone thanks to a benevolent environment and playful exercises. THE TRAINER With training from a Grande Ecole post-European preparatory class & an Ivy League university in the United States, our teacher has specialized and has worked for more than 18 years in the field, in international establishments, speaking in forums and conferences. ➤ PLACE, TIMETABLE, PRICES ✓ Locations: Geneva-Lausanne-Fribourg-Zurich-Neuchâtel-Lugano-Montreux-Basel-Neuchâtel-Bern-Lucerne-Brussels-Luxembourg-Paris-Lyon. But currently, these sessions continue to be offered by videoconference in the current context and in accordance with general demand which is almost unanimous on this subject. ✓ Indeed, apart from the classic advantages of videoconferencing (time saving related to travel & their unforeseen events, eco-responsibility, increased schedule flexibility, etc.), the quality of the session & the interaction remain identical. In addition, the entire exchange, notes and recommendations are immediately transcribed on the dedicated chat. ✓ To support us among ourselves & to be pleasant to you in this sustainable / particular period and in a spirit of solidarity, the fees are temporarily reduced and will not increase after the start of our sessions. ✓ Languages: French/English. ✓ The progress following these private sessions is perceptible from 1 to 2 sessions (*2024 study). ✓ As other people do regularly, you can also please your loved ones by offering gift vouchers available all year round. Trécy
French classes, French literature, DELF/DALF/BACHIBAC preparation and competitive examinations
Good morning! My name is Trécy, I'm French, and I've been living in Madrid for 8 years. I've been a French teacher for 7 years and hold a degree in Spanish Philology from the Sorbonne (Paris) and a Master's in FLE (teaching French as a foreign language). My method is communicative, meaning I primarily encourage oral communication in my classes, analyzing documents, videos, and audio, but always with the goal of reviewing and studying grammatical structures, conjugation, and, above all, the vocabulary necessary for you to be able to converse in French-speaking environments. In addition, in class I practice with the students both the oral and written comprehension sections as well as the oral and written production, grammar points, conjugation, conversation... because don't forget that spoken and written French are like two different languages and it is necessary that you know how to speak and write them. I also offer varied and engaging content to my students so they can learn while having fun with videos, audio clips, role-playing games, real-life situations, debates, and more. The goal is for you to learn inductively. That is, you will analyze the grammatical structures and verb tenses that appear in the documents studied to derive the rules for these structures. We will study them together and explain them with the goal of later applying them through exercises, activities, dialogues, etc. In short, you are the driving force and the driving force behind this class! But the most important thing is that you learn and practice while having fun. In more technical terms, I prepare my students for the French DELF / DALF / EOI tests at levels A1, A2, B1, B2, C1 and C2 and also for the official French BACHIBAC tests for literature and competitive examinations. You will see in class that I am a teacher committed to my students, serious, dynamic, smiling, motivated, and very attentive to the questions, needs, and doubts of my students. If you have any questions, please feel free to write to me! :)

Elise
French private lessons by university graduate in Letters
Holder of a Master's degree in Letters and endowed with a solid experience in private lessons, I provide French lessons for students wishing to: - consolidate their bases in grammar, spelling - improve their language skills (allophone students) - improve their speaking skills (conversation classes) -profect the written expression - prepare for ECR exams - prepare for the written examinations at the end of the studies (maturity, certificate of completion) - help with the writing of works of maturity (or other works of end of studies), of dissertation - work on argumentative texts - acquire a method to analyze literary texts - learn how to perform bibliographic research The course material is a Google Docs document that I create in which my explanations, possible links, exercises appear. By reading it regularly, progress will be faster. It can also be used in addition to other documents (files printed by school teachers and/or books) and has many advantages: automatic updating, downloadable on tablets and smartphones, simultaneous monitoring of what is writing. For help with writing: The objective is above all to acquire effective tools. The student will thus be able to learn to structure his ideas, argue coherently (and convincingly) and enrich his vocabulary. It is essential for me to have written work from the student between each lesson. For analyzes of oral literary texts: In order to optimize the time available (and to put ourselves in conditions closest to oral exams), we choose together an extract from a work that the student will have previously prepared before the lesson. This would take around 20 minutes at most, and ideally just a little before the meeting time. If necessary, I have the habit of taking a paragraph at random which would serve as a basis for analyzing a passage. For the corrections of end of studies work: so that the meeting with the student is at the most profitable, I ask him to send me his writings before the meeting. Apart from my presence with the student, any course involves a preparation time before and after the lesson, including the work that I correct. My goal is to design an individualized course, so I take the time to write detailed comments on corrected work or tips to ensure maximum success for everyone. For example, an editorial correction can easily be the subject of a detailed commentary of 4 typewritten pages. For adults (FLE): In order to optimally prepare the first ones, I take the initiative to inform myself in advance of their objectives / expectations. Whether to practice speaking in everyday life, the professional world or to practice oral presentations, I prepare either PPT or technical sheets in advance that I send by mail ( after booking on the website). The other alternative is to make a PV of the course that I send (or that I print). Giving importance to keeping a written record on the one hand to better memorize the topics covered, on the other hand to better assimilate the spelling. Of a general nature, a concrete situation that responds to the learner's needs is the starting point. From this situation, I address the essential grammatical points.
