Poetry writing course with a passionate multilingual poet

In the modern world, the significance of poetry is overlooked. From Aristotle to Derrida (the range is not comprehensive), literary theory has maintained that a poem's power is measured in its affect. Throughout this course, our goal will not be to make inscrutable poetic analysis - though the first part of the lesson will be spent analysing word choice, meter, line length and spaces of an English poem written between pre-modernism and postmodernism. Rather, through our perusal of poetic form we will be able to ground our work, somewhat modestly, in the English poetic tradition. Before the first class you will send me some of your own work so I know how to build or refine aesthetic temperament. I have been writing poetry for ten years and two years ago I published a chapbook at a press with competitive standards, and I am currently working on a full-length collection. If you wish to take up poetry seriously, time is needed and an eye for detail is essential. I look forward to us broadening our aesthetic sensibilities together.

I studied Language Sciences and Literature in Paris, where I also did tutoring sessions for students in difficulty. I also studied Game Design and Narrative Design. Being a musician, I write song lyrics for several projects. I have been writing poetry and freelance writing for over 10 years. I am also a content creator for a French-speaking Belgian webzine; Shoot Me Again. My background in literature and linguistics helped me to have a sensitivity to language. I bring a lot of importance to the weight of the words and to the rhythm in my writings. My diverse experience has helped me build a solid background. I can teach poetry, how to write song lyrics, spontaneous writing for the Spoken Word for example but also how to structure an article, a dissertation or any other writing. With thirteen years' teaching experience, in universities, private institutes, secondary schools and as a private tutor, I have a PhD in Comparative Literature and a broad understanding of learning techniques and approaches. I am friendly, approachable, and will tailor my teaching to your needs, objectives, likes and dislikes. With expertise across English and Anglophone Literature, theory and criticism, Comparative and French Literature, different exams and curricula, I feel confident helping you achieve your aims, whether personal, professional, or exam based. My research focuses on contemporary poetry, postcolonial literature, music and popular culture, ecopoetry and nature writing. I have taught a whole range of periods, movements and critical approaches. I also have many years' experience teaching English as a second language, including conversation skills for different contexts. I also teach writing skills, both professional and academic (including essay writing), and am happy to tailor classes to specific aims (for an event, a presentation, an interview, a specific professional field). I think that teaching works best when it works on your level: you can learn English through discussion of music, TV series, books, and more - I am happy to integrate grammar and learning points into this. In terms of Literature, we can approach a book, author, poem, play, theoretical work, movement or moment, together, and in different ways, drawing on the classes and materials I have developed over ten years in leading Parisian universities (I have also worked in the British and US university contexts). I am also happy to teach creative writing skills - particularly poetry and non-fiction, so please feel free to ask about this, too!

I taught Turkish to three people before. A Greek, an Arab and a German learned Turkish with me. They began to read Turkish poems and listen to songs. One of them even gives me song recommendations. You can too. You can learn language step by step. Turkish is a difficult language. I am aware. I'm not going to crush you under the grammatical walls. Step by step, I can prove how easily you can speak a language by speaking, singing, reading poetry. Let's try it.

I can aid students from preschool to IGCSE/GCSE level in English, Verbal Reasoning, and essay writing. Having achieved an A* in both English Language and English literature, I am passionate about teaching children how to love the subject and excel in their examinations. I have tutored English in the past to both preschool and IGCSE pupils, offering a dynamic and interactive teaching style that helps nurture a child's love for English and creative writing. I have access to the poetry pamphlet taught in most schools for IGCSE, but can access whatever syllabus is needed for a specific exam. I also have created several worksheets for students who are learning English as their second language. Having studied French, German, and Latin at school, I am aware of the etymology of many words which will allow students to connect meanings across their language to understand the literature fully. In my free time, I write poetry and novels and can share many teachings I learnt on a creative writing course I undertook in 2016.

I've taught Creative Writing to university students at a world-leading school, and worked with younger audiences, and I'm happy to work with a variety of forms in English. I studied for my MFA in Creative Writing at the University of British Columbia, and won a scholarship as the strongest poet in my cohort.

I am an accomplished author and performance poet with two published poetry anthologies. My work as a poet not only involves writing but also performing, bringing the art of spoken word to life and engaging diverse audiences. Alongside my creative endeavors, I have a strong background in education. I have taught poetry and Sociology to both young people and adult learners, facilitating a deeper understanding and appreciation of these subjects. Through my teaching, I strive to inspire others to find their voices and explore the power of words, while also providing insight into the complexities of human society through the lens of Sociology.

I am a passionate English Literature student at the University of Kent with years of Creative Writing experience. I've studied writing at the University of Amsterdam, have written and directed my own play, and have been published by various student papers, zines and online publications. I'm seeking to offer support to up to First Year University students in English language and literature studies, as well as helping students develop their critical and creative voice in their writing. I can compliment their studies, develop their understanding of and engagement with their curriculums, and increase individuality and confidence in their work. I achieved an A* in my English Literature and an A in my English Language iGCSEs, and am on track for a First Class English Literature degree.
