I am always trying to bring positivity, passion, and curiosity for learning. Depending on your interest I can help you with: Piano: I teach using different methods, according to your needs and goals. I always care about setting up and cultivating a healthy technique of playing, trying to bring a complex approach to interpretation or improvisation. Composition: Basic principles of creating a musical piece, theory of composition, notation (ranging from classical to graphic and open scores), instrumentation, orchestration, arranging, creating electroacoustic music, computer-aided composition, and recording. Music Theory: Harmony, rhythm, aural skills, music analysis, and history of music – these are some of the topics inseparably belonging to music education. Since I have many years of experience teaching music theory within all levels of education – from basics to advanced – we can find a way how to approach those topics with enthusiasm and creativity and learn as much as possible :)

I have completed a Bachelor of Music at the Australian National University and am now starting my Master of Music at the Koninklijk Conservatorium van Den Haag. I love to share my passion for music with others, and in my lessons you will learn about music that interests you and most importantly, have fun! I have been teaching for six years. I have experience teaching all ages and abilities, in individual lesson environments, group lessons, reed making lessons, small ensemble tutoring, and orchestral tutoring. I have experience with all genres of classical music, and have a strong background in music theory, aural skills, musicology, and composition. Lessons with me will incorporate all skills involved to become a well rounded musician. Some of the highlights of my musical career so far have included being principal oboist and orchestral manager of the Australian National University Orchestra and performing E. Goossens' Oboe Concerto at their 2022 Concerto Gala, playing tutti oboe in the Canberra Symphony Orchestra, principal oboe in the Australian Romantic and Classical Orchestra's Young Mannheim Symphonists Orchestra, and performing in the Olive Trio, a chamber music ensemble consisting of oboe, violin and harp, made up of members of the Canberra Symphony Orchestra. I give lessons in Dutch and English.

Violin and Viola lessons for children and adults in Amsterdam (Amsterdam)

Our first lesson was an exploration of the feeling of holding the viola and the bow and of playing some notes pizzicato and with the bow. Maya was enthusiastic, patient and flexible in adapting to what I could and wanted to try. Her calm approach (letting learning sink in, allowing a process of getting used to the playing and learning) made me feel very comfortable and inspired!
