Trusted teacher: Music is Play! and everyone is it's own game. Read, understand and make only the music you like. I think if it isn't fun, it can't be music:) I studied a classical piano bachelor, and later a jazz master and a live electronics master. In the meantime, I have been teaching music. It's longer than 9 years now! Most of my students learn piano. With the starter ones, I use my own system to equally help them grow all the needed skills: body consciousness (to avoid lesions or bad habits), music theory (including writing and reading) and improvisation. Usually most songs are made of melody, chords and rhythm. From there, I can help you understand how a song works, how is it written, how does it translate to the piano... and voilá! You'll know the song by heart, and will be able to play it a bit different every time, because you won't be following a set of pre-imposed instructions. You will understand how a small system (a song) works. This way of learning can be applied to any song, from any century or style. Understanding is key! Play Chopin, write rock songs, play Monk, Bill Evans, the Beatles, make a lo-fi beat, play Beethoven, play the Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter and Star Wars, play video game music, play salsa! bachata and make people dance, laugh or cry. Music is very powerful! PD: I have also experience imparting electronic music lessons in Ableton Live and Max MSP, which is now a very important part of my professional practice. Children and Adults If you have a child or know someone who has developed an interest in learning the piano, you'd like to learn it as a second instrument, or you are a working professional who just fancies trying something new, I'd be happy to get you started on your musical journey. What to expect? You can learn how to read music, understand simple music theory, play simple chords and scales, develop your own creativity, and can focus on playing some classical/jazz/pop pieces and even work towards taking online performance exams. I will develop enjoyable lessons tailored specifically to you. Making the first steps In the beginning, the piano can be very overwhelming! I take a lot of time on the basics as there is always a lot to learn and take in. I use a variety of beginner method books and resources to help you build your confidence in understanding the piano itself, developing your coordination skills, learning to understand the musical notes on the page, developing your musical ear, and understanding basic music theory. Jazz - Pop - Classical After having covered the basics of piano playing, theory, and reading skills, many of my students move on to playing classical, jazz, blues, or pop pieces, practicing scales and finger exercises as well as further strengthening their sight-reading skills. Improvising Or if you perhaps wish to get away from notes written down on the page I can help you develop your own creativity by understanding theory and applying it to chordal playing, composing and improvising, and playing by ear. Practical Lessons From the age of 12, I had classical piano lessons and have always studied the piano as a secondary instrument to the trumpet. I continue to play piano as a hobby and during my studies at the conservatory, I developed an interest in jazz piano playing. You can therefore feel confident that no matter what your interest may be (perhaps you haven't figured this one out yet), I can give you high-quality fun, and enjoyable training in your own interests. No Piano yet? There are a lot of options and things to consider when working out how to get hold of or buy a keyboard/piano which can be confusing and sometimes stressful! Many have found this way not only to be very suitable but actually their preferred style of learning. Sometimes nothing can be better and simpler than learning in the comfort of your own home. As a teacher, I often find the best solution is a mix of both online and live lessons. We can experiment and find the best solution for you. Lesson Location I live in The Hague and teach from my apartment on a Yamaha Acoustic Upright and Electric piano. My name is Mar and I am a 26-year-old professional pianist (with pedagogical training) graduated from the master degree in Classical Piano Performance as soloist at the Utrecht Conservatory, now studying a second master in Piano Performance in Rotterdam, Codarts. After completing my Bachelor's studies, I continued my musical exploration in Codarts' Master's program. Alongside my classical training, I've always been intrigued by the therapeutic potential of music. In 2023, I earned certification in Music Therapy, expanding my horizons and deepening my connection to the healing power of music. In collaboration with my colleagues, I am member of the Olga Trio. Our mission is to highlight the works of women composers throughout history. My son just had his first piano lesson with Joel and he loved it. When the hour was finished my son felt a bit disappointed as he wanted to continue and said the class had gone by super fast. After Joel left our house my son told me he would really like to continue taking lessons with him as he felt he learned a lot and had a lot of fun. I personally liked Joel’s communication and professionalism when scheduling the class, and the planning of the curriculum going forward. I think my son will learn a lot from his classes with him.

First lesson went of quite well considering that I'm a novice, but with help from Nuno who is a very patient and pleasant guy i do feel a bit more confident. He explains it in a simple format giving you the time to understand what you are actually trying to play. I look forward to my next session
