Hello! My name is Bjørk and I’m a professional double bass player living and teaching here in Amsterdam. I have 2 diplomas in Jazz Bass from Sweden and a degree in Jazz Bass Performance from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. I love teaching and I have taught since 2016. And I love the bass! I teach double bass, electric bass, composition, improvisation and music theory. I have experience teaching complete beginners with zero prior musical knowledge to more advanced players. I also have taught students online. I believe that every student is different and I always customize and adapt my lessons to your needs and your goals. And don’t worry if you’re not sure what those are yet, we can figure it out together! As I see it, music and learning should be most of all: fun! Of course it’s at times challenging, but we will focus on what you feel passionate about and see what works best for you. Even though I specialize in jazz, I have played many genres and we can do anything you want. Pop, rock, punk, indie, world-music/folk funk, or anything else that you are interested in. I also teach band coaching if you have a band that you want to play with.

I help my students to learn to play the bass guitar or to improve their level with personalised approach where I create individual lesson plans for each student for their needs and pace. I create exercises from the songs you like/wish to play and cover the technical aspect in a fun way.

I'm offering lessons for anyone interested in learning how to improvise, regardless of the instrument you play or the style you would like to improvise in. Even if you have no or little theory knowledge yet, I have a way of getting you started with improvisation and then teaching you everything theoretical you need to know. I have been playing the trumpet for more than 15 years and have experience in many different music genres like Jazz, Pop, Classical, Baroque. I graduated from the Academy of Music in Ljubljana. I used to do a lot of teaching (young to old) when I was still residing in Slovenia. My desired goal as a teacher is to show you an easy and fun way to master a new skill or some new aspects of it, but not to fill your head with unnecessary things that will make your progress hard and slow. I have studied with some of the biggest names of classical and jazz trumpet worldwide like: Omar Tomasoni, Miroslav Petkov, Reinhold Friedrich, Chris Colleti and many more.

Voice lessons are an amazing way to strengthen your voice and broaden your range. Lessons are offered for all types of musical styles including jazz, classical, and pop. In these lessons we will cover vocal technique, song performance, leading a band, sight reading, music theory, and other aspects of performing and singing. Taught in English by a Native English speaker the student with receive English diction lessons along with singing. The basic technique is guaranteed, but the teacher will work with the student on the specific goals and topics the students want to focus on.

I've spent the past 10 years freelancing with some of Australia's best orchestras (Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Orchestra Victoria, Darwin Symphony Orchestra & Sydney Symphony Orchestra to name a few..), as well as recording sessions for pop/rock artists, film scores and music theatre. For many people improvisation is a scary word and having to improvise in a group or band is an alarming prospect. However, this really does not need to be the case. As long as you have a basic knowledge of how to play your instrument you will be able to improvise. Once you know the principle of how chords are formed you will soon be improvising with ease. If you play a keyboard instrument you will be able to improvise your own pieces and be able to entertain your friends at a moments notice. On the other hand if you play in a band or a group you will be well equipped to do a real 'jam' session. Whether you play a single line instrument (flute, saxophone, trumpet, violin etc.) or keyboard instruments, this class is for you.
