I have taught privately and at language schools like La Scuola Italiana del Greenwich Village in New York and ItalCultura, the school of the Italian Cultural Institute of Chicago. During the first few lessons I will make sure you have the tools to pronounce and identify all the sounds of the Italian language. This step is essential! And it will make everything easier afterwards. When I teach Italian I try to avoid all the things that I hated as a language student. We will use real songs, real literature, do real conversation and storytelling. When you are engaging all your senses it is easier to keep your mind relaxed and to remember new words. I will customize my materials to your interests, needs and desired pace. And because you are learning from a native Italian you will also learn about Italian culture and history. You will absorb a way of thinking, not just grammar rules. I speak a bunch of languages so I know a thing or two about how tedious language classes can be. My terrifying French teacher in middle school made us repeat the same fake dialogue from a really bad book ad nauseam, over and over and over again. Some of those dialogues are carved in my brain: “Bonjour, je m’appelle Richard Drapeau, je viens du Canada, je suis Canadien...” When I teach Italian I try to avoid all the things that I hated as a language student. We will use real songs, real literature, do real conversation and storytelling and we will go on “talking walks” because when you are engaging all your senses it is easier to keep your mind relaxed and to remember new words. I hold a degree in Lingue e Letterature Straniere (Foreign Languages and Literatures) from Università Roma Tre (equivalent to an American MA) and a Master’s of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Arts and Media from Columbia College Chicago. I wrote a thesis about translating a long epic poem by W. H. Auden and I tried to ride a horse across America.

I’ve been working as a music teacher for around 12 years (I’m 29 years old), both doing private lessons and in different music schools, being the most important one the “Escola de Música Creu Alta” in Sabadell (Barcelona), which is one of the biggest music schools in Spain (with more than 900 students), in which I was the Head of the Modern Music Department. The Rabine Method is a vocal technique and pedagogy, and the Alexander Technique is a method developed to improve posture and the way we use our bodies. MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE VOICE: Singing has been a lifelong passion for me, but I used to be quite shy and introverted. I was afraid to sing in front of others, even though a part of me longed to do so. At the age of 15, I began taking singing lessons to create a safe space for myself to sing, where only my teacher would listen. Slowly, I started performing live and began to truly enjoy it. However, over time, I encountered difficulties with my vocal technique, and my enjoyment of singing faded. After an extensive search for the right teachers to help me overcome these challenges, I discovered the Alexander Technique and the Rabine Method. That's when my journey towards progress and joy truly began. ALEXANDER TECHNIQUE AND THE RABINE METHOD: The Alexander Technique teaches people how to reduce general body tension and move in harmony with their body's mechanics, paying close attention to the spine and joints. Within just three months of weekly lessons, I noticed improvements in both my posture and my voice. I came to understand that the vocal system is intricately connected to the entire body, and singing could be a harmonious experience for both my mind and my body. This newfound joy inspired me to help others in the same way, leading me to become an Alexander Technique teacher. I graduated in “Contemporary Writing and Production” at Pescara Conservatory in Italy. During these studies, I dove deeper into Pop and Experimental Electronic Music, orchestration, and orchestral composition. I also had the opportunity to play in different bands and discover different genres such as Post Rock, Progressive Metal, and Heavy Metal. After my bachelor's degree, I finished my studies following a Master's program at Codarts (Rotterdam) in Creative Production. During those two years, I had the opportunity to collaborate with many people and explore different kinds of music (Turkish, Flamenco, Jazz, etc.). I wrote an Artistic Research about electronic unquantized music by analyzing the sound of producers such as Flume, Burial, and Arca. Now that my studies are finished I feel that I want to spread my knowledge and my passion to many people as possible. My class subjects are: - Music Production (from beginners to expert level, mainly Ableton Live and Pro Tools classes) - Cello Lessons (from beginners to intermediate level) - Music Theory (from beginners to expert level) - Composition and Orchestration (explore the world and joy of composing for an orchestra and how to use your DAW as a real symphonic orchestra). (LIVE or ONLINE!) Piano, improvisation, composition and music theory lessons (Rotterdam)

I had previously played some classical for a few years, but was looking to learn jazz piano and improvisation as well. For this David is ideal, as he studied both as a classical and jazz musician, and has a deep understanding of each. About half the lessons we focus on jazz improvisation. During the lessons I improvise over a few songs, and each session he gives feedback, while adding a new layer of difficulty. We've also worked a lot on rhythm, which has really helped me bridge the gap between classical and jazz. We spent a few lessons on classical pieces as well, to refine technique and musicality. My playing feels much more fluid and musical already, and he's really helpful/knowledgeable with the details. Also, on the weeks where I did have not had much time to practice, we do a more (jazz) theory oriented lesson, which has also helped alot with my improvisation. Overall, I only have positive things to say about the lessons! David is a very easy-going teacher, and from the first lesson I felt very comfortable asking him questions. He's very versatile as well, and easily adapts the lesson according to what suits us best that week.

Reconnecting with Pau as a guitar teacher has been as good as I remembered. He's a a great instructor in all the aspects: he's patient and when something is difficult for me he always finds and alternative that is complementary and it really helps me. He knows a lot about music and different genres but if you want to play something he doesn't master, he'd look into it and make it easy for you to enjoy it. The way he plays is so good he's an inspiration and it makes you want to be better. Always my number 1 option guitar teacher!

Valentina has been my Italian teacher since February. Since then, I have made great progress in learning Italian! She uses a very good method/book which also allows you to work online. But the best thing is the personal interaction with her, which really makes the difference: the explanation of grammatical stuff, the correct pronouncation and which words to use when and also some background information about Italy and the Italian people.
