This is usually done by tensioning steel wires or rods into the concrete using special devices, and then the concrete is held in a prestressed position. Then, when loads are applied to the concrete during its use, these initial stresses enhance its ability to carry loads better. Advantages: Increased endurance: Helps to withstand heavy loads and high pressures. Reduce cracks: It helps reduce cracks that may appear as a result of heavy loads. Use less material: It can help reduce the amount of concrete and steel required compared to regular concrete. Greater resistance to tension: Prestressed concrete is more resistant to tensile forces than regular concrete. Uses: Bridges: Commonly used in bridges, where concrete must withstand huge loads.
