About Me
My name is Gonçalo, I’m a young Portuguese musician living in Den Haag.I explore several types of music such as alternative punk/rock, post-rock, contemporary jazz, improvised music, folk/singer-songwriter, etc.
What I love about the process of making and performing music are the endless possibilities that exist well within the grasp of anyone who really attempts to understand them. Not only this but, while understanding them, still wanting to create an interesting and unique voice and being able to reach the level of focus and entertainment (both at an intellectual and emotional level) that has the potential to “elevate” our minds and personalities. Basically, Music is true fun and entertainment.
The guitar is, for me, one of the most interesting vehicles for musical expression, given that it has immense sonic possibilities and continuously gives us, in so many ways, some of the most memorable, powerful and fun musical moments.
Teaching is for me one of the most intellectually engaging ways to pass on the knowledge I’ve gathered, while still learning from the students themselves. As I’ve mentioned, one of the things I find most important and interesting about music is the creation of a unique voice. The creation of this unique sound allows us to manifest our own interests and ideas about music and life in general in our playing and enjoyment of music. It is through this very attitude that I get to learn from the students and their personalities, and I believe that it is also something that makes students engage more with their own ideas and perceptions, which in turn makes them progress more.
Education
I completed the Jazz Guitar Bachelor's Degree at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague and studied with teachers such as: Eef Albers, Wim Bronnenberg, John Ruocco Patrick Schenkius, Henk Huizinga, Johan van Kreij.I completed the Jazz and Modern Music Bachelor's Degree at the Lusíada University of Lisbon and studied with teachers like; Ricardo Pinheiro, André Fernandes, Demian Cabaud, Mário Delgado, Vasco Mendonça, Gonçalo Marques, Desidério Lázaro.
I attended masterclasses from renowned artists such as: Lage Lund, Jeff Ballard, Enrico Pieranunzi, Joey Baron, Erik Ineke, Rory Stuart,Perico Sambeat, Guillermo Klein, Ohad Talmor, Dan Weiss, Miles Okazaki, David Doruzka, Matt Renzi, José Mário Branco, Carlos Bica, Frank Mobus, Jim Black, Kurt Rosenwinkel, Dave Holland.
Had some awards such as:
- The award for “Best Combo of Portuguese Music Universities and Higher Education Schools” in Jazz Fest of São Luiz, Lisbon;
- The Merit Award from Lusíada University of Lisbon consisting on fully-paid tuition for the 2nd and 3rd years of the Bachelor’s Degree in Jazz and Modern Music.

I really enjoy Gonçalo's lessons. He's very understanding of different learning styles and tailors the lessons to my needs. He's very talented in both teaching and playing music. He's also very kind and nice to be around. I highly recommend !
We are very happy with Goncalo's guitar lessons for our 8yo. Our son is improving week by week and we can really see how the technical tips from Goncalo are very fruitful. Hand, body and arm positioning, specific left and right hand techniques etc. And he manages keep the lesson engaging. We will definitely continue with Goncalo as long as possible!
Gonçalo was very patient and helpful with my a, making him want to continue learning the guitar. That in the begining was my Choice not for my son. He is now impatient for the next lesson. Thanks Gonçalo 👌😊
I have done already more than 5 lessons with Goncalo and I can highly reccomend him. He is very kind and patience, but mostly I great teacher.
I was a beginner trying to learn playing guitar via internet without any success. But since I started taking lessons with Goncalo I improved quickly my skills. what we do during the lessons is playing together a song of my choice, first he shows me what the accords are and then we play :)
Gonçalo is an understanding and easygoing instructor, attentive to what the student wants to learn. Highly recommended!

Guitar, Mandolin, Music Theory lessons by enthusiastic tutor and performerEnthusiastic guitar tutor and performer.
I started playing classical guitar at the age of 6, and my formal musical education began at the age of 9 when I started attending a music school in Croatia. After 6 years of primary school, I continued studying classical guitar at a secondary music school in Varazdin, Croatia. During that period I received training in classical harmony, Counterpoint (polyphony), Solfeggio, Music history and gained plenty of experience in orchestral playing and choral singing. I decided to continue my musical education in Manchester where I was studying for an undergraduate degree at the Royal Northern College of Music and currently I am studying at the Royal Conservatoire in the Hague. As a performing guitarist, I have successfully participated and won prizes in a number of international competitions in the UK, Italy, Croatia, Slovenia and Bosnia and Hercegovina. Although my studies are primarily related to classical music, I am comfortable playing and performing music in a range of other styles and genres. I am also experienced with mandolin and Croatian folk instrument called tamburitza.

Piano and Music - "Every pianist should focus on being a complete and balanced musician""I am a pianist. I started playing the piano at the age of seven and I am passionate about music. I am fascinated by the world of pedagogy, understanding that teaching is helping to learn. I am committed to my work with dedication and enthusiasm, and I believe that motivation is the key to both teaching and learning. I want to educate in values and I am committed to the pursuit of educational quality, based on equity and excellence. I am flexible and adaptable to each person, and I like teamwork. I appreciate discipline, rigor in my work, effort, and resilience. My aim is to help students learn constructively and to help them become autonomous as soon as possible. The focus is always on the student."
I structure the classes into three blocks, which I consider essential:
-Technique: through exercises and studies we must develop technical ability.
- Works of all styles: we learn from the great artists of all periods.
-Introduction to jazz and modern music: we will create a routine to work on improvisation and develop creativity.
These are the paths I propose, but each student is free to develop what he/she wishes. I also complement the classes with musical language and harmony.
Every pianist should focus on being a complete and balanced musician. We must develop aural skills, sight-reading, mastery of musical language and harmony, composition, improvisation, creativity, a critical spirit, good taste in music, and above all, a passion for music.
