Music Exams Support - any aspect, any board, any level.
Wanting some extra help in preparing for a music exam? Would you like some extra advice on performance techniques? Struggling with your composition tasks? Finding analysis of a piece of music confusing? I am here to help.
I worked in a comprehensive school teaching music for over 35 years. In that time I engaged with many different exam boards at GCSE and A level delivering a range of different courses. I am passionate about all aspects of music, whether it be performing, composing or listening and analysis. Whatever you need help with, I am very keen to be able to offer my expertise in any or all of these areas. Each of the three disciplines is intrinsically connected with the other two and having a good grasp of all three will enable you to improve your ability overall.

About Me

I qualified as a specialist Music teacher in 1984 and taught in a comprehensive school in England for over 34 years before taking early retirement. However, I still had a great desire to teach students from home which I continue to do via the internet. I have played piano and violin to a high standard for many years and have a great interest in composition. I have composed in a variety of different genres including instrumental, choral/vocal, incidental music and avant garde.I have always enjoyed working with a wide range of different musical styles, catering for the interests of my students.

Lesson was an excellent introduction.
Composing your own music has always been a very rewarding task. This has never been so true as the present day when you can hear what you compose instantly by using computers to generate and play back your own music. However, to ensure that your music sounds really great there are many principles to be considered.
I have had a great interest in composing for over 40 years, composing in a wide variety of styles. Having been a music teacher in a comprehensive school for over 30 years, I have had a lot of very relevant experience in teaching composition to a wide range of different ages and abilities.
The class will be personalized to your particular standard and chosen style of composition. If you are a complete novice and have not used computers to create music we can use a web-based programme or a free downloadable programme. On the other hand, if you are familiar with a particular programme that you have installed on your computer we can work through screen sharing and sound sharing to enhance your compositions using my experience. I will tailor-make the class to suit you.
The theory of everything tends to be really scary and music theory can be too. I am very keen to make music theory easy for everyone. For some people there is only one way to tackle the unmentionable but I believe there are many different approaches and one of them will click with you. It is simply finding out what is best for each person. Once we find the key we can unlock the problems that have puzzled you for ages.
Music theory needs to be more than a requirement, it needs to be the way to really appreciate the music you are playing. Certain aspects can also lead to additional practical skills such as improvisation which can be very useful as well as very enjoyable.
Whether you want to understand a particular aspect of music theory or If you struggle with music theory in general, then this is the class for you - why not give it a try?
For many people improvisation is a scary word and having to improvise in a group or band is an alarming prospect. However, this really does not need to be the case. As long as you have a basic knowledge of how to play your instrument you will be able to improvise. Once you know the principle of how chords are formed you will soon be improvising with ease.
If you play a keyboard instrument you will be able to improvise your own pieces and be able to entertain your friends at a moments notice. On the other hand if you play in a band or a group you will be well equipped to do a real 'jam' session.
Whether you play a single line instrument (flute, saxophone, trumpet, violin etc.) or keyboard instruments, this class is for you.
Have you ever wanted to learn to play the piano/keyboard but don't know where to start? Are you regretting giving up learning the piano/keyboard when you were younger? Do you feel that your current progress in playing the piano/keyboard is being held back?
If the answer to any of these questions is yes then please contact me. I always try to ensure that each individual student's interests are catered for. If you want to play for pleasure then I will encourage you to learn pieces that you like. Alternatively, if you are more interested in achievement, in terms of taking graded exams, then this is the pathway that we will take.
Enjoyment is the key to success as it leads to a desire to practise. So tayloring the class to your needs is absolutely essential and I am very keen to work with you to achieve this goal.

Music Composition - GCSE and A-Level Students - Beginners to AdvancedThis class is designed for GCSE and A-Level music students eager to develop their composition skills in line with exam requirements. With a focus on originality and creativity, we will explore compositional techniques, musical structures, and stylistic understanding across a variety of genres. Piano Lessons (Classical Music and Non classical), Music Theory, Harmony, Musical Arrangement, CompositionAt my studio my students will not only learn how to play the piano, but they will receive a complete musical education in order to achieve their musical dreams. I will give all my best so everybody will get the tools for developing their own voice, helping them to master the instrument and teaching them all the theoretical knowledge they’ll need to make their particular personality shine. Openness, joy, dedication, creativity and passion for music are some of the things that you will find in the international environment of my studio. I care about who my students are and what they have to say to the world, and I will help them to develop it from the very first lesson.
In my class you will not only be able to receive piano lessons but also will learn to understand how the music works as a language. If the interest and the profile of the student goes in the direction of the purely classical music performance, the lessons will be focused on a deep and conscious piano technique development, practicing techniques, musical interpretation, history of music, history of the piano, applied harmony on the keyboard, analysis, and score reading by a method that I have developed for over 15 years of experience. And if the students wish, I can help them to prepare for the ABRSM exams and competitions as well. All this is aiming to achieve in a very practical and exciting experience the best results in the fastest way possible. But if the profile and the interests of the students goes on another way, I will give them all the tools they need to understand the language of music in depth, so they can find their own voice on the instrument. In that case the lessons will include contents of piano technique, score reading, applied harmony on the keyboard, composition, improvisation, musical arrangement, music production, recording techniques, jazz and pop music analysis and performance. Both programs can be combined depending on the focus and the profile of the student, or in case the student would like to go deeper in one of the previously mentioned subjects there is the opportunity to take an independent course of specialization on the desired topic. At the end of the semester every student will perform at the winter and summer concerts held every year and will have the possibility of making a recording session with the material worked during the term. With this, the student will not only be able to see his progress and work, but also will give him a direct experience of performing and working on a live or studio recording session, which is a fundamental part of the developing process of every musician.
Hope you can join and if so, I’ll be very happy to teach you!

Let's talk about music! Musical language, harmony, composition, various analyses, music in its sociocultural context or commented readings(Important! The schedules are now closing with the students I already have, so it is difficult to specify a definitive schedule for September)
Hello! I have been teaching uninterruptedly for more than 10 years and I would like to explain to you what you can find in a class with me:
- To begin, the most important thing is to know what you want to achieve. I would like to focus the classes according to what you need or want, from learning for pure pleasure from scratch to preparing for entrance tests or focusing professionally. The needs of each student may vary the methodology, the way of organizing the study sessions, etc.
- Once we know what we want to achieve and by when, classes will begin in a relaxed atmosphere. Important! Relaxed does not equal lax! only that we will try to resort to dynamic and as practical methods as possible, especially given my character and sense of humor ;).
- Something important to highlight is that I always place special emphasis on the development of hearing, musicality and the analysis of your references. Above all so that you can then make your own aesthetic decisions and feel like owner of your music.
- Last but not least, my tendency will be to give equal importance to different music. We will adapt to your tastes and needs, but here there is no room to say which music is better or worse. Each one will help us work on different aspects of the music and, if we don't know something, we will analyze it side by side until we unravel all its mysteries. The only thing I will do is work on themes and styles that can help us in each section of musical development (melody, harmony, rhythm, orchestration, production, lyrics, semiotics, etc.)
If you like what you've read, don't hesitate to contact me. Learning music is a pleasure and I would love to share it with you!
IMPORTANT!!! Due to the volume of concerts and other assignments I have, I will need to agree on a little flexibility. You will always be my priority and there will only be changes if I really can't find an alternative. I appreciate the understanding.

Private guitar lessons for every level: from basic chords to out of the box improvisationHey!
My name is Richard and I give private lessons to all levels.
For guitar, it is important that you can improve yourself in a pleasant environment in a fun way where your interests are central. Do you want to delve deeper into a certain style? Do you want to create your own sound on your guitar using amps, and pedals, ...? I can help you with all that!
Knowledge of solfège or music theory is not required, we can always discuss this in class if you wish, but that is certainly not mandatory ;)
I have been playing the guitar since I was 9 years old and for several years now I have been playing in professional bands with which I have been able to play on sugar rock, for example.
The lessons would take place at my home in Mol or via webcam. If necessary, we can always agree on something else.
Be sure to let me know if you have any questions and I will answer as soon as possible.
See you soon!
Richard
PS: my specified hours are a guideline, if this does not suit you, you can certainly send us a message and we will try to arrange something :)

Solfege & Oriental Solfege: Quarter Note - Rast, Bayet, Siga, Kord, Hijaz, Ajam, Nahawand - Major & Minor ScalesWith over 8 years of experience as a Solfege, Oriental Solfege, Oud, and Oriental singing teacher, I am a Lebanese musician currently residing in Mönchengladbach, Germany. I honed my skills for 8 years at the Lebanese National Conservatory. Prior to my relocation, I taught at Casa Beethoven Academy in Lebanon and also held private music lessons. As a concertmaster, I performed with the oriental orchestra "Loubnan Assalam" for over 5 years.
My move to Germany was motivated by my pursuit of graduate studies at the University of Kamp-Lintfort.
Fluent in English, Couramment en français, ولغتي الأم هي اللغة العربية. Aber leider spreche Ich ein bisschen Deutsch.
Solfege, the foundation of music theory, is an essential tool for any musician who wishes to understand and create music. It provides a way to identify and communicate notes, intervals, and rhythms, and it is the key to developing musical literacy.
In this class, you will delve into the world of scales, exploring the unique characteristics of Western and Oriental scales. We will study the following scales:
Rast, Bayet, Siga, Kord, Hijaz, Ajam, Nahawand- Major & Minor Scales. In addition to these Western and Oriental scales, we will also introduce you to the quarter note, which is not traditionally found in Western music. It is a quarter note with a unique and distinct sound.
Whether you are a beginner or an experienced musician, this class will provide you with the knowledge you need to use scales effectively for improvisation, singing, and playing any instrument.
With this knowledge, you will be able to:
* Read and write music (dictation) in solfège notation for both Western and Oriental scales.
* Identify and communicate notes accurately in the context of various musical traditions.
* Develop a deeper understanding of music theory and rhythmic concepts.
* Infuse your musical performances with a broader range of expressive possibilities.
We will use the book "المقامات الشرقية by Georges Farah" as the main reference for our study of Oriental solfège. This book is considered the best book in the Middle East to teach Oriental Solfège.
Discover the power of solfège to enhance your musical skills and open up a world of new possibilities!

Music Composition Skills - Pre-GCSE, GCSE, A-Level & for fun!Composition is one of most exam boards requirements for GCSE and A-level Music. In particular, to write a piece ranging from 2 - 3 minutes in length for either solo or chamber groups of instruments.

Composition may appear overwhelming and it is my aim that my students will be able to find the beauty in writing music and being able to cope with the stresses of writing music; by equipping them with both the necessary skills of writing music, but also how to push through the various challenges that come with it (And perhaps most importantly, how to achieve excellent marks for your coursework)!
If you also want to know simply how to write a piece of classical music, write a song or even if you're just starting out in writing music, you've come to the right place! Let's get you writing some music!
