Greek Lessons by qualified Professor of Classics and native speaker

Latin, a fascinating language that allows you to better understand French, to immerse yourself in the stories from Antiquity to the Renaissance and to discover a new way of thinking. Whether it is to discover it, to deepen it or to help you with your courses, you will benefit from my experience in classical studies, from my years spent in a library of old books and manuscripts and from my passion for grammar (which is not so boring when you know where to take it).

I obtained my CESS in general education in Latin, Greek, history, math 4. Then I started studying at the University of Liège in ancient languages and letters classical orientation in September 2019. I obtained in June 2020 a complete success of the first bachelor in this option and I am now embarking on the pursuit of these studies. I have therefore accumulated a good deal of knowledge in the following subjects: Latin, ancient Greek, history. I am now able to give tutoring lessons to great beginners or intermediaries who need help in these subjects. My teaching methods are flexible and I can help with understanding and completing homework.

I offer a range of tailored lessons to students of all ages wishing to improve their English language skills (reading, writing, speaking m, comprehension etc.). I am also able offer tuition in Latin, Ancient Greek & Ancient history. I am a native English speaker (born & raised in the UK) and have a Masters degree in Classics from Oxford University. I will soon also have a TEFL CELTA certificate.

Contrary to popular belief, learning Latin is not like learning the phone book by heart. I offer you Latin lessons that are unlike any other. There are two types of courses. Here is an analogy to illustrate their respective approaches: If you take the train back and forth every day and don't have time to wait long at the platform, imagine that you only have two options: 1) Learn the schedules by heart. 2) Note that the train arrives every ten minutes and that a train arrives for example at 7:00 a.m. In school pedagogy, in study notebooks and in ordinary courses, it is the first approach which is adopted - in the courses that I offer you, it is the second because it is more economical and faster. My offer is aimed at both students and adults who want to learn the Latin language or deepen their knowledge without time-consuming detours through the insanities of school methods which do not produce results. Learning is easy but unlearning what has become a bad habit is extremely difficult. All the more important it is to learn the right reflexes as early as possible. With my tailor-made teaching you will accelerate your learning in a positive state of mind. I offer individual or group Latin lessons (2 to 5 people). The methods are based on cognitive sciences and in particular historical linguistics. What will not be the subject of the course: learn lists of verbs; learn lists of nouns with their gender; learn words with their translations; memory card game; doing school exercises; follow the program in a notebook; impose French grammar on the Latin language. What matters to me in particular: motivate my student and give him a learning rhythm; encourage creativity; make friends with language; letters and their sounds strengthen your memory by working on the phonological loop; teach construction plans instead of having people learn sentences by heart; explain how the language works to make my student independent as quickly as possible; breaking preconceived ideas such as the gammatical gender would have a link with the biological gender, the accusative would be a direct complement and the dative an indirect complement, the verbs would be irregular, the declension would be random and therefore to be learned with each verb... ; place practice at the center and articulate grammar around practice. As a graduate with a BA in Latin and Ancient Greek and a MA in Biblical Hebrew, I offer private Latin, Ancient Greek, and Biblical Hebrew classes both for students who seek private tutoring and for those who wish to learn these languages even more in-depth. I am currently a Classics student at Durham University, and achieved A*'s in Latin at GCSE and A-Level. I am knowledgeable about the OCR exam board and what they require, so can provide exam focused teaching or a more relaxed learning pace for all ages and abilities.

Ancient Greek is one of the oldest languages in the world. A multitude of literary and philosophical texts have been written in this language. Later, Latin will take up many elements of the heritage of ancient Greek. Today, about 10% of the words in the French language have an ancient Greek origin. Our educational exchange aims to understand ancient Greek culture and Western European culture in general. Although it is a dead language, ancient Greek can instill values in us, broaden our horizons and even help us understand French better. At first we will study the alphabet and the general rules of word formation. With the help of mythology and texts (philosophical, literary and others), you will be able to understand basic words, phrases and expressions and get to know the world of ancient Greece. Finally, in Modern Greek, you can prepare for all levels, from A1 to C2.
