Accordion lessons for all levels in Rotterdam or via Skype

My name is Helena Sousa and I am a professional musician. I have done my Bachelor and Master of Music in Spain and France, respectively, and now I work as a freelance musician in The Netherlands since December 2017.

As a hard-working and active person, I am encouraged to show how music works and how it is essential in life, doing different activities with the student such as listening to music, doing body percussion with different rhythms, singing or playing the instrument.
All of these are important activities to develop the skills of the student such as coordination, attention or discipline, along with the most important thing: enjoying music as a fundamental part of life.

I offer accordion lessons for students of all levels in Rotterdam, as well as Skype lessons.

Bandoneon Lessons - Learning from the instrument's technique
Bandoneon is a very well know instrument for playing tango, in fact it's part of the genre's DNA. However, not many people know that the instrument was constructed in Germany and some people even say it was supposed to be used as an portable organ. This means that the Bandoneon has a technique that is independent of any genre. This technique is not found by coping other instruments such as the organ or keyboard but through the development of the nature of the instrument. This is mainly the importance of the air and how it is affected by the pulling and the movement we make when we play. Of course Tango will be an important axis of the lessons as it very important for the development of the instrument and for specific techniques but Tango won't be the starting point as it's not the best pedagogical tool for learning the instrument. But no worries, we'll get there ;) Have you ever wondered how a Gregorian chant, Bach, Mozart & Chopin might sound in the bandoneon? The results might surprise as you would get a very different sound from the one you are originally used to. Also, we can try and use the bandoneon for different and new genres, who knows what we might discover from the instrument along the way?

Let me teach you how to play the accordion and have fun together! (piano accordion/button accordion)
Have you ever tried playing accordion from YouTube tutorials, but despite playing one melody you still feel unable to play something more? Or maybe in the attic you found an old accordion that reminded you of the sound of your childhood when your grandpa played it? Would you like to repeat that feeling? One day, I asked myself: If I wanted to start playing the accordion from the very beginning, drawing on my rich experience learning how to play this instrument, what would I focus on in particular to reach the goal the fastest? Surprisingly, I would have not followed the outdated accordion teaching methods :) Nothing motivates you more than noticeable effects, that is what I based my teaching method on - self-motivation :) Well-chosen personalised exercises based on the current repertoire bring unusually quick results. Does it sound interesting? I invite you to my trial lesson! All that I require is student engagement and regular, conscientious practising playing your accordion - the effects will come to you. I provide musical materials and - if needed - audio/video.
