What are the sessions about? The sessions are to work on conversation in English through topics and content of psychology, well-being and self-help. The content is about positive psychology topics, where tools for life are acquired, through information and reflection exercises. Why use positive psychology content? According to several studies, including a study conducted by Cambridge in 2022, the best method to learn a language is through immersion (exposure and engagement). This means that when we learn topics or activities that interest us, the brain activates the prefrontal cortex, the striatum, the limbic system, and the hippocampus, which are the areas of long-term memory, motivation, concentration, reward, and emotional experience. These functions together create greater receptivity to new information. It is about talking about topics that motivate and interest us to enhance learning. They are also life tools that benefit us all. What level should I be at? Once you understand the written and/or spoken language, and can say the basics, we can start working. You will notice that they are very complete and you may be a little tired after the session, if you are not very familiar with the language. If the session is in a group of two or more people, it can be once or twice a week. We will talk about many interpersonal topics in the session and we may follow up during the week by sharing relevant content via WhatsApp and voice notes, also in English for both parties to continue practicing fluency and vocabulary.
