My name is Jamie and I have been playing drum kit and percussion instruments for over 20 years. I'm well versed when it comes to techniques, rudiments, various styles of music, reading music, writing music, and teaching. At the age of 16, I was not only in three band classes in high school, but was a member of two community groups, Little London Winds and Pikes Peak Philharmonic. Additionally, I've played percussion in orchestra pits for community theater productions for seven years. In 2012, I continued to play with various community concert and orchestral groups, all while coaching my old high school's drumline. In 2015, I joined the military but that didn't stop me from teaching. From 2018-2019, I coached a local high school drumline in Washington State who won an award at regionals for the first time in the schools history. Still in the military, in 2023 I relocated to California City, CA with hopes to tech aspiring individuals. Drum Kit: I started playing drums when I was six years old and am well versed in all styles of music. You, your child, your teen, or whomever you're looking into classes for will learn to read music, techniques, rudiments, and fundamentals. First, we start with the basics and build from there. It may seem boring or lack luster at first, but trust me, once you get the hang of the basics, the fun really begins. These lessons will also help if your teen is in the high school Jazz Band. Percussion/Marching Band: Recently, I have learned that the middle school in town has cut their music program, leaving teens to not be able to get the proper experience and musical education before going to high school. I want to help with that in any way I can. By working with me, your child or teen will be able to work up to the experience needed to get them through high school level classes and extra curricular activities. Since these lessons are to get your kid up to speed, I will be recommending books that they should be practicing will. During the lessons, I will bring my own but for them to get the proper practice, I highly suggest having copies of the books at home and a practice pad. Both: Most students who want to learn drum kit, end up playing percussion in school. For students that want to learn both, they'll get both percussion and drum kit lessons at no extra charge. The lessons will be formed around the student's needs for that week. For example, if they have an audition or a test, we will work on that for 45min then finish with drum kit for some fun. My job as a private teacher is to help you, your kid, whomever with what ever they need. I do not have a strict curriculum, but I do plan my lessons around the student, their skills, and goals in order to help them be the best they can be.

I begin by having a phone conversation with you, or your parent, (which ever is appropriate) so we can establish a sense of our compatibility, comfort level and direction. I like working with beginning students; a good teacher can help you get there faster, but I also enjoy helping: working professionals playing in lots of bands, or drumming for years! Lessons are written or verbally expressed for the individual student! Teaching you the “METHOD”, a uniquely simple approach, will help … you concentrate on finger control, independence, speed, endurance, bounce and to perfect balance between your hands and feet, all in a relaxed manner.. I also incorporate the “MOELLER METHOD”. This approach to drumming uses bio-mechanics and ergonomics to support smoother, injury-free playing. Your own body will teach you how to accomplish this. Your speed and power will increase as well. Extra information We’ll start by working on: Drum pads and a metronome, to perfect your inner rhythms and relaxing techniques Use of mirrors, so you can self-monitor your hands and body mechanics creating a comfort level, and easily correct your technique. By using mirrors you can create a visual approach that encourages concentration on the consistent, even sound of your sticks, bass drum pedal, and hi-hat pedal along with keeping good posture. I teach in my home studio where I have 2 drum sets, several practice pads, bass drum practice pads, hi-hats and mirrors and metronomes. You can look forward to learning a fun discipline, and a simple philosophy with a relaxed and exciting approach to the drums rather than styles of music. You can take what you learn in any direction you choose. I love playing drums, wouldn’t you love to play too? Come join me for the fun of playing. There is nothing more satisfying, and rewarding, for me, and hopefully for you, then learning to play the drums!
