Drums, as with bass guitar are the backbone of any good song, and the foundation upon which the music is built. Despite not being as famous as lead vocals or lead guitar. Drums in my opinion is much more fun, at all levels of performance. I will teach you how to play the drums, how to fit the style to the genre and we will learn by practice by breaking down the famous classics, and explain what part drums played to make these classics so good. We will use my electronic drumset, which is not as good as the real thing but is definitely good for starters. There are ways you can practice at home without a drumset as well. And we can expand later and rent a studio room, where I can jam with you on the guitar even!

Throughout the years I have developed piano skills with which I can play all sorts of compositions by ear as well as improvise variations based on the main structure of a piece. In this course I will show you the practical and theoretical basics to improvise as well as learn pieces on the piano without note sheets. It will not be a "classical music lesson" although I will reference classical music and talk about music theory, music history and the physics of sound a lot. It won't have a "syllabus" either on the basis that every person needs different sets of skills to improve upon. It will be more of a discussion/dialogue accompanying the piano where we will expand on our ideas about music. Music Theory is a vital step in approaching Music Composition, especially when done for film and media. Therefore, I've designed this course to teach both topics as independent and inter-connected subjects. In this course, the student will learn about the foundations of Music Theory by studying melody, harmony, rhythm and timbre. To learn about Music Composition, we will then focus on how these work together to create a piece of music. Finally, we'll redirect everything we've learned and new knowledge on scoring a film scene. Moreover, we'll study pre-existing films and their music to understand the vital relation between image and sound.

I specialise in advanced Classical and Jazz Piano, Composition and Arranging, as well as fundamentals of Theory of Music for students from ABRSM Grade 5 to Diploma level. I offer substantial discounts for families and for bundles of 5 or 10 lessons. I have a well-equipped studio with a new grand piano as well as other keyboards and music tech gear, and teach both in-person for students living in Edinburgh, and online internationally. Both programs can be combined depending on the focus and the profile of the student, or in case the student would like to go deeper in one of the previously mentioned subjects there is the opportunity to take an independent course of specialization on the desired topic. At the end of the semester every student will perform at the winter and summer concerts held every year and will have the possibility of making a recording session with the material worked during the term. With this, the student will not only be able to see his progress and work, but also will give him a direct experience of performing and working on a live or studio recording session, which is a fundamental part of the developing process of every musician. Sound is a word with a broad meaning. In these classes we will focus on listening sessions and sound composition/improvisation. At first, we will exercise the art of listening (natural and artificial/man made sounds). Later on we will try to make sound compositions and improvisations manually and on computer programs (optional). Listening is a powerful tool for daily awareness. Listening to your surrounding, means being aware of other things and entities that exist around you, which adds on to a deeper understanding of oneself and one’s environment. Through a selection of music, sounds and a series of exercises, I will guide you through a journey of listening to yourself and your surrounding.
