About Me

Translated by Google. Click to view original.
Marvin Burlas, a passionate violinist and educator, has carved out his musical path with unwavering devotion and insatiable curiosity. Originally from the South-East of France, Marvin began his musical journey at the age of 5, diving into the meanders of classical music. However, his attraction to world sounds and jazz quickly emerged, igniting in him a fervent passion for improvisation.

This passion led him to exciting new horizons. His encounter with violinist Tcha Limberger was a turning point, leading him to the doors of the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. There, alongside renowned masters such as Arnould Massart, Jean-Louis Rassinfosse and Manuel Hermia, Marvin perfected his art, exploring the nuances of jazz and expanding his repertoire.

In 2018, Marvin co-founded the Aleph Quintet with Akram Ben Romdhane, a daring ensemble blending jazz, groove and Arabic influences. The quintet quickly attracted attention with its captivating performances, mixing North African melodies, jazz improvisations, Gnawa rhythms and Sufi culture. The awards poured in, with prestigious distinctions such as the Tanit d'argent and the Dar Eyquem prize at the Journées Musicales de Carthage in 2019, as well as the first prize of the KR Découverte music press in 2021.

Over the years, the Aleph Quintet has conquered national and international stages, from festivals in France and Belgium to renowned showcases such as WOMEX and Visa For Music. Their first album, “Shapes of Silence”, released on Igloo Records, was named “revelation album” by Jazz Magazine. This will be the opportunity for him to meet Fabrizio Cassol, the famous saxophonist of Aka Moon, who will play on the album. A second album in live version will be released in May 2024. Aleph's second studio album will be released in April 2025.

But Marvin is not limited to the world of the violin. Alongside his career with the Aleph Quintet, he explores other facets of his art, even winning the 3rd prize for documentary music composition at the Semaine du Son in 2022.

As an educator, Marvin shares his passion and expertise with future generations. From the Chessy Music School to the Vareille Foundation and educational interventions in Belgium, he is fully invested in passing on his knowledge, guiding students on the path to creativity and musical fulfillment.

Through his musical journeys and educational endeavors, Marvin embodies the spirit of the complete artist, continually exploring new horizons while sharing his passion with the world.

Violin Lesson - exploring elements that creates tension and unease and what makes music sound different
Explore where your tension is coming from, where the error is happening between your body and your brain, and what music wants you to do with open, free wills. As a violinist, I experienced long-term injury, and I explored many other fields like physical therapy, psychology, personal training, Alexander technique, Feldenkrais, and Body mapping for recovery. This experience has impacted highly on teaching as well, and I would love to help others with curious, open, and creative eyes and minds. From body posture to small technical issues, I will help you look at the issue from many different perspectives that can help you find a more organic way to make music.

>> Violin Lessons to Free the Inner Expression and Creativity <<
Violin learning is the process of discovering one's own voice through the infinite possibilities that this four strings instrument has to offer. From sparkling, intense and rough to pure, kind and crystalline; learning the violin, as many other arts, is about freeing the emotion through the discipline and order of sound and movement. Let me introduce myself. I am Ángeles, an Andalusian in Finland, finishing my master degree in Music Performance at the prestigious Sibelius Academy with great professor Mari Tampere-Bezrodny. I came to Helsinki two years ago seeking for a personal and cultural growth, with huge passion for music and the need to share it. I discovered in violin teaching a new path to that energy to come true, to materialize, by inspiring and leading enthusiastic students to their best performance. The starting level and goals of the student will determine the direction of the lessons. Join my class if violin is your passion, if you need to reinforce your technique or you want to discover the wonderful world of violin playing.

In this violin course you will learn a foundation in learning one of the most rewarding instruments in a fun and relaxed atmosphere. Grip the bow, hold the violin, have the perfect hand position and enjoy playing the strings while learning how to read the notes, the violin rhythm and technique. Students will generally learn better if they feel a connection developing with their teacher, whether that’s through humour, showing care about their development, or making sure teacher devote time equally to all students when in a group. However, diving into the wonders of the piano/keyboard can be a bit overwhelming... and that is where I come in! This course is for anyone from complete beginners to advanced students, from lessons that focus completely on classical music to lessons that include or focus on the basics of jazz/pop. If you like to sing, we can also work on the basics of jazz/pop vocal, so you can learn to accompany yourself at the piano. If that all sounds good to you, then please reach out to me and we can start ASAP! Lessons can be in English or Dutch. So who am I? In a nutshell, I am a professional pianist, vocalist, lyricist and blogger. Since 2014, I have taught in various music schools, teaching piano, ensemble, jazz vocal, and solfege. On a more elaborate note, I obtained my Master of Arts in classical piano, summa cum laude, at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent (KASK) in 2017, and studied as a Fulbrighter at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music in Bloomington USA during the 2019-2020 academic year. Every day, I strive to become a better musician and person, and I aim to transfer that passion to my students.
