University-Level Tutoring in Legal Philosophy and Theory
Legal Philosophy and Theory are the building blocks of Law. These disciplines deconstruct everything we think we know about law, opening our minds to new ways of seeing the world and how law operates within in.
By the Founder and Director of the World Moot on International Law and Animal Rights, this class is taught through traditional lessons imparting substantive legal knowledge and legal skills training, including in the form of mooting exercises. We also work on techniques and strategies for assessments, and, to test the student's knowledge, engage in exercises in the form of mock assessments (essays and problem questions) that are graded by the tutor.

About Me
A public international lawyer by training, I earned my post-graduate degree in law from Oxford University and qualified as a barrister at the Bar of England and Wales. After nearly 1.5 years training at international criminal courts/tribunals and 1.5 years running two courses on a Swiss LLM programme, I am now working towards my doctorate in animal rights legal philosophy and theory, at the Universities of Basel and Antwerp. I hold various scholarships/fellowships, and am thus funded by (the) Swiss, Belgian, and Finnish governments/research institutions.
I have set up and run various moot court competitions. As International Expert in Moot Court Training for the International Commission of Jurists and the Danish Institute for Human Rights, I founded, developed, and ran the first moot on international human and animal rights law, held at the national level in Myanmar. I am now the Founder and Director of the first world moot on international law and animal rights, comprising an international mooting competition and mooting/coaching training courses.
In my spare time, I work, pro bono, as a legal correspondent and moot court coordinator at the UK Centre for Animal Law, a consultant composing law and policy recommendations for the European Union on behalf of Dierencoalitie (the Dutch coalition for animal NGOs), and a legal and policy advisor to various animal NGOs across Europe. I am also a member of the Animals & Biodiversity Think Tank of the Global Research Network, and an Expert at World Animal Justice and at the Global Animal Law Association. I hold various other honorary appointments and memberships.
I also paint (because it's fun), cook (because I like eating), play guitar (because the habit remained, though the talent waned), and kickbox (because it's a great stress-buster).
My current favourite music artists are Cage the Elephant, Dr. Dog, Imagine Dragons, Modest Mouse, and Tame Impala (though I remain morally opposed to actually caging elephants or taming impalas). Nick Valensi is, to me, the best guitarist in human history, and Dani Filth has the most beautiful voice I have ever heard. Over the years, my most consistent sources of entertainment have been Stephen King’s magnificent story-telling, and the TV shows 30 Rock, Always Sunny, and What We Do in the Shadows. Some of my favourite films are A Few Good Men, Fracture, and Primal Fear, along with a host of war films.
I strongly wish to use my legal skills to contribute to safeguarding and promoting animal rights, and am constantly seeking new and meaningful ways to do this.

Ankita is an excellent tutor. She provided helpful insights and tips during our lesson. I look forward to future lessons.
Amazing tutor who really listens and answers fast whenever I have any concerns or questions. She helped me figure out a study schedule that works for me, showing she’s all about helping in the best way she can. She found time to help me on a Sunday before my big law exam, which was awesome.
She has good knowledge on all the subjects we’ve tackled, explaining things in a way that makes sense. She is super nice and approachable, making the whole learning pleasant and fun. You can ask her anything, and she’s ready with the answers, making you feel at ease and supported. She makes the subjects interesting and fun to learn.
I’m really confident that with her help, I’m going to turn my academic career around for the better. It’s helpful to have someone like her to guide me through stressful time.
Excellent. I m booking the next one

Planning on studying law? Want to know more about how the law works? Want to know how to write like a lawyer? Then this class is for you!Hello! My name is Christian and I am a qualified solicitor back in my home country of New Zealand.I've recently moved to London and before I embark on my next professional adventure, I thought it might be a nice time to give back some of the knowledge I've collected over my studies and professional experience. I took great satisfaction when I helped my younger brother during his legal studies (and even more so when I admitted him to become a lawyer).
I spent many years trying to grasp what the law is, how to write a 'legal opinion', how to write 'like a lawyer' - even how to 'think like a lawyer'. Surprisingly, all thise things are actually quite helpful even if you don't want to become a lawyer. Understanding the law can help you know your rights better, it can help you solve problems more logically, it can help you write more concisely and more persuasively. Anywhere you go or whatever you want to do, somewhere along the line the law will be involved - if ever so slightly. And the best part is, there is always more to learn! Even the finest judges, or the most distinguished King's Counsel don't know everything about the law (although they;d be pretty bloody close).
So let me know whether you're studying law and want some help with your studies, whether you want to improve your writing or negotiating skills, whether you want to learn abit more about the law that affects you, or whether you want to know what its' like working as a lawyer. There are no silly questions in my class!
(Please note that this class is not and cannot be constituted as 'legal advice', it is for educational purposes only!)
Look forward to meeting you all,
Christian
Oh and if I haven't selected available times that would suit you better, please drop me a line and I'll see what can be arranged.

International Law Tutor (International Criminal Law, International Humanitarian Law, Public International Law, Human Rights Law)My knowledge of and experience with international law derives from my studies and my work. I graduated ‘cum laude’ from the Geneva Graduate Institute with an LLM in International Law and a specialisation in International Human Rights Law and International Humanitarian Law. Previously, I graduated ‘cum laude’ from The Hague University, with an LLB in International and European Law.
I have extensive knowledge of the fields of international human rights law, international criminal law, international humanitarian law, law of international organisations, and public international law more broadly.
I finished my studies only a couple of years ago, I can relate well to having to prepare for an exam or a paper, and enjoy sharing the tips that helped me improve and succeed.
Knowing the different kinds of exams that law students need to prepare for and what is expected, allows me to tailor my approach to the classes, while ensuing you have a full-rounded grasp of the subject.
I usually adopt the Socratic Method, ensuring an exchange and not a one-sided lesson. I am also keen to shape the classes to your needs and develop a lesson plan that works for you.
I have worked at an International Court, a UN Agency, and am now working as a delegate negotiating resolutions at the United Nations in Geneva. I use International Law every day and bring a practical perspective of the use of international law to our lessons.

Teaching International Humanitarian Law at 2 Levels; Intermediate - AdvancedWith over one year experience in teaching and a decade long experience with adolescents and young adults, I, herein, present my course in "International Humanitarian Law".
In today's globalized world where the effects and repercussions of a conflict are not confined within a single state, it becomes crucial to know what rules are in place that regulate conflict and provide protection to those who are vulnerable. Aiming to mitigate and prevent human suffering in an armed conflict, International Humanitarian Law gives us answers to questions, such as: who can and cannot be targeted and under which conditions; at what times does a protected person lose protection; who is a combatant; what distinguishes a combatant from a civilian; and, what protections are available to those who do not take part in an armed conflict.
Amidst the many interstate conflicts, such as, Ukraine-Russia, Iran-Israel and Palestine-Israel conflicts, as well as the intrastate ones, such as in Sudan, having a working knowledge of International Humanitarian Law becomes even more vital as it re-establishes one's trust in law and humanity at such uncertain times as these ones.
