I am a professional musician graduated from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam(Master degree, Jazz Department). I have a wide experience of teaching and performing which I would be glad to share with you. On our lessons we can consider such aspects of performing as: - breathing - sound quality - phrasing - lips flexibility and legato - articulation - sight reading - improvisation I am flexible in process of teaching. I can offer systematic and personal approach. According of your level, needs and interests we can: - make a plan of lessons and learn topics step by step - work with specific questions and material you choose - prepare for exams. Individual upper brass (apart from French Horn) and/or music theory lessons from beginner to advanced either online or at your house. For all ages and abilities but must have own instrument. The lessons are designed by the teacher, Ernesto, a graduated trumpeter from Conservatorium Van Amsterdam, with experience being an international musician, to expose the student to the various aspects of trumpet performance and to develop a course of study to help him/her develop and maintain a good performance skills starting from any level. In case the student is not a trumpet player, but wants to develop his/her musical skills by learning the theory, this course is also designed for that. The course is designed to aid the student in achieving the following objectives: -Learn the basics of musical performance with special attention to rhythm, tone quality, musical phrasing, range, intonation, improvisation, ear training and style. -Develop the ability to perform music from different jazz periods. -Develop the ability to play in a trumpet section (Big Band, Commercial sections, Latin sections, etc.) -Demonstrate the ability to perform and understand music in varied key signatures, keys, and meter signatures. -Develop the student ́s creative skills by working on the student ́s abilities to compose and arrange the student ́s own music. -Prepare the students for the entrance examinations to Conservatories and other educational institutions.

Instead, finding your unique best approach to improve your skills will get you to the moon! For improving your tempo awareness, would you practice with a metronome or would you rather use a drumbeat sample? Your health is important! Body awareness and breathing techniques Not only wind players benefit from doing sport, acquiring good posture habits, and being aware of their breath. It helps everyone in every single aspect of their lives. A good breathing technique will let you play easily, run for a longer period of time, or sleep better at night. On the other hand, body posture awareness helps with productivity and saves money on the fysio. Life hacks that you cannot miss! Improvisation and open-mindedness That very feeling of creating art on the spot. Only a few experiences can relate to it. When we explore and create, our flow state gets triggered. Recording and producing Let's face it, we are in the 21st century and the possibilities of technology are endless in the audiovisual field. Ok but, how will my lessons look like? Breathing practice is one of the best ways to start warming up. It will take the first 5 minutes of your lesson and your body will be prepared to start playing. Then, we would go into working on your specific goals. Perhaps, we are practicing music that demands improvement on the higher register, maybe we are working out different scales for improvisation, or it might be the case that you want to discover a new genre and go deep into it. Reading music, ear training, phrasing, music theory, buzzing and embouchure position, articulations (legato, staccato, accents), dynamics... These are only an indication of what we might work on. The final minutes of your lesson will be the moment to relax. We can get creative, play some tunes together, improvise, or even talk about a specific topic like musicality, art, creativity, technique, theory or the music industry for instance. Learning the skills of being a good trombonist and a good musician go hand in hand. Nick offers two separate classes in jazz/general trombone performance and music composition in Amsterdam or online. Nick is an experienced musician with over ten years of musical practice. In the trombone lessons, you can learn new ways to improve your creativity, technique, improvisation, and overall playing in a jazz setting, and beyond. In the composition lessons, Nick can help improve your ability to write professional charts, help out with a theory, arranging, and other skills. These lessons are open to any skill level. Currently studying classical trumpet at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, I started my musical studies in Guyana and New Caledonia. When I arrived in Paris, I had the chance to benefit from the teaching of Guy Touvron (Schola Cantorum) and Clément Saunier (CRR de Paris) for about 4 years. I was also able to benefit, through masterclasses, from the advice of great world-famous trumpeters such as Allen Vizzuti (USA), Thomas Hooten (USA), Hakan Hardenberger (Sweden), David Guerrier (France), Miroslav Petkov (Bulgaria ) ... I suggest you discover and / or deepen the technique of the trumpet; having worked for a long time with a physiotherapist specialized for musicians, we will be able to address points such as posture, breathing techniques, projection, opening of sound .... Essential points for building a game that is both healthy and staff ! Also, my teaching combines music theory and the aspects allowing to better understand and feel the music, that is to understand at the same time in a theoretical and musical way what the score releases. These two traits of learning are a basis which to my taste brings a technical solidity and an artistic sensibility closely linked. I will guide you for the choice of material (trumpet, mouthpiece, mutes etc ...) and on the purchase of sheet music for beginners and / or those who need advice on their instruments. About me? I’m Luso-american musician who moved to Amsterdam to study jazz trumpet at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where I’m currently finishing my bachelor degree. I started playing the trumpet when I was 9 years old, and since then my passion for music just kept on growing bigger. My main focus as a jazz musician was big band playing, where I’m specialised in lead trumpet playing, however I kept myself open to different styles being part of Afrobeat bands, playing in small formations, such as trios or just playing some groovin’ music from Earth Wind & Fire or Kool & The Gang.

Whether you are just starting out, or you already have some notion but need guidance, or you are advanced but want to learn about a specific musical style, I would love to help you on your journey! We can focus on specific technical/musical problems, or have a more general approach to playing and improvising. This class is for beginner-intermediate-advanced musicians who aim to explore more about music and get better at their playing on their instrument. This doesn't refer only to professional but includes amateur and passionated students interested about how to gain more music knowledge. Music is one. there's no differences between its styles. Learning it means learning about yourself, your strengths and weaknesses and the class will be self designed for the student starting from his/her desires. moreover music will be researched eventually from its main topic such as improvisation, time feel, resonance and intonation for brass , harmonic knowledge and music theory.
