I study English and Creative Writing at the University of Birmingham. I have experience in writing and have published many articles in the Redbrick Newspaper. My original poem in the International Phonetic Alphabet has been 'highly commended' in the 2020 Language for Literature Competition. I am the CAL Ambassador at the UoB, and also a Student Rep. I was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Scholarship to study at the UoB. I have scored 98% in English in grade 12th (A level equivalent). I have also got a Medal of Distinction and a Certificate of Distinction by getting the 25th zonal rank in the first level of International English Olympiad in the same grade. My school rank was the first. I qualified for the second level and got the certificate of Zonal Excellence for the 22nd zonal rank too. I have also been awarded with trophies of Overall Proficiencies and scholar badges, every year from the grade 6th to 10th for a 10/10 CGPA. Writing is an individual and vulnerable process. When we creatively write, we are telling stories, and the effectiveness of each sentence affects how readers interpret our stories and us as writers. I know better than anyone how vulnerable it can be to share your writing. I also have an intimate understanding of the technical writing skills required to keep readers engaged and to get published. In this class, you'll learn how to: -Structure stories and paragraphs with appropriate beats and pacing. -Build complex, fully realized characters. -Write engaging, realistic dialogue in novel or screenwriting format. -Hook readers to the page using pacing techniques and red herrings. I can provide story and character consultation and feedback on your current projects. This is an advanced class. Please do not sign up for this class unless you have experience in creative writing. This may be a good class for a writer who has just finished their first novel and is looking for advice on editing and story consultation. It also may be a good opportunity for writers who have finished novels or scripts and are looking for advice on a new project. This class will introduce you to some building blocks for writing effective poetry. This will focus on imaginative and descriptive aspects of poetry, as opposed to technical and academic aspects. It also works for creative writing in general. However, it will specifically focus on some of the more playful and concise elements of poetry, as opposed to the structure and narrative of prose, for example. There are a lot of barriers and negative preconceptions around poetry which I am to dismantle - building confidence and making poetry feel fun, as opposed to fearful! Enthusiasm is more important to me than academic ability. I also welcome pupils who speak English as an additional language and will try my best to accommodate as many access needs as possible. I am a tutor with 7+ years of experience teaching at a variety of levels from primary school to GCSE level. I teach English Language, English Literature, ESOL (English for speakers of other languages), Maths, and Creative Writing. I have taught students both in person and remotely, planning lessons using virtual presentations, activities and resources both in the UK and abroad. I believe the most successful results come from fostering a friendship with my students, and providing constant encouragement and support in their areas of interest. I pride myself on being an attentive listener and carefully adapt to the specific needs of my students, which is particularly helpful for my SEN and ESOL pupils. I have previously volunteered as a mentor with charities such as Al Muntaha Tutoring and Debate Mate, providing mentorship, relevant advice, and support to young people. At the beginning of every lesson I also do short icebreaker activities and challenges with my students, using a points reward system to keep them engaged. Previous students have gone on to become the top of their class and receive recognition at school for both English and Maths. Lessons start at 1 hour in length, with longer lessons available if required. Lessons are structured according to the needs of the student; this can be working alongside their class syllabus to support them with progress at school, tackling an area or subject they are specifically struggling with, or helping them prepare for national exams such as GCSEs. I provide feedback after every lesson and detailed progress reports every six months for each student. I primarily offer online lessons as I have found this works well for me and my students, but in some cases I do teach face-to-face depending on location and availability within London.
