Introduction to MAO (Computer Aided Music)

Professional musician and certified music teacher (CAPES), I offer private MAO lessons for those who want to venture into computer-assisted musical creation! The lessons take place in my fully equipped home studio (monitoring speakers, keyboards, etc.). We will learn the basic techniques of musical creation (audio/midi jack, drum rack, arrangements etc.) on a computer (Ableton, Cubase or Logic Pro software), we can also approach sound engineering including some notions of acoustics to perfect your overall mastery (mixing, frequencies, waves, etc.)! The course takes place in joy and good humor while always trying to give your best to progress! Currently a student in musical education at CEFEDEM Auvergne Rhône Alpes, I graduated from the Conservatory of Chalon-sur-Saône with a triple DEM of Amplified Current Music, Creation-Composition of contemporary music and concrete music. I also obtained a license in Musicology at the University of Dijon. The courses can take the form of project follow-up to anchor your learning at the heart of your personal practice and they can also take the form of more technical courses. They can take place in my own Home Studio or at home, of course for travel costs. The form of the courses is fully customizable and adaptable to all levels, so we can approach the basics, such as setting up your own home studio and learning the basic software. We can also discuss advanced software techniques, mixing and why not composition methods and harmony if you are tempted! Passionate about music and sound technique in the broadest sense, I will welcome you with great pleasure in my studio! Above all, it seems important to me to say that the courses are placed under the sign of good humor and fraternity, which is a prerequisite more than necessary for me to be able to share this passion that drives us all! ;)

Currently a DJ and having done 5 years of piano, I offer my services for private music lessons. Musical composition (by computer): I can teach the basics of composition and combine my personal experience with the course to give you a solid foundation for your personal development. Piano: Can teach coordination exercises, learn pieces that the student has chosen according to their level and play with one or two hands (bonus for anything related to improvisation) DJ: As I know that the world of DJs is a wild fauna where no one gives you any pointers, I can guide you through this fabulous universe by showing you how to master a turntable, what a DJ needs, etc.

We’ll cover essential concepts like beat making, working with MIDI and audio, using virtual instruments and effects, and basic mixing techniques. You’ll also get hands-on with a DAW (such as Ableton Live or FL Studio) to produce your own music. By the end of this course, you’ll have the skills to confidently start or continue your music production journey.

< Learning Piano is not merely about playing the piano > Before starting to learn the piano, it’s essential to recognize that : '' What we are actually learning is "Music", but not only "Piano". '' The goal of learning any instrument is to acquire the language of music, enabling us to express ourselves and enjoy music with others. Playing the piano is for creating beautiful sounds, not really for developing finger speed or strength. That’s the function of gym. < Music is like cooking > When we cook, to make roast beef tender, of course, it’s nice to have a tender heart, but without knowing how to control the temperature, the roast beef won’t become tender merely by our tender heart. By only adding salt, the dish won’t be sweet. Similarly, simply playing or writing a C major triad chord won’t convey a sorrowful feeling. To create the feeling we want, no matter how much sentiment we have in our hearts, to convey it via music, it needs to be translated into the language which the piano can understand, which means, how we press and lift the keys and pedals. Similarly, when we compose, it needs to be transferred into chords, and notes we write. < Difference between an audience and a musician > There is a common belief that a musician can make music with sentiment or feeling. While it’s partially true, the most essential thing is knowing ‘’How’’ to create the sound that conveys the feeling we want, rather than merely knowing ‘’What’' feeling we want to convey. The understanding of the mechanism behind music is essential, as cooking, and that is the difference between an audience and a musician. As an audience, one can simply feel the music. Like a chief who knows how to create a specific flavor to convey, a musician knows how to create the sound which can convey the feeling we want. While knowing which feeling we want is great, it’s merely the first step. Your emotions are not too different from Chopin, Beethoven, Adele or Taylor Swift, otherwise, they can’t resonate with you. But they know how to create the sound that conveys the feeling they want to their audience. < Course Content > I consider my course to be a form of "Music Consultation" because it contains a wide range of subjects that are essential to a professional musician. While we focus on piano playing, there are also music theory, music history, instrument construction, ergonomics for performers, analysis of composer styles, composition, arrangement, recording, MIDI, computer music, the physics of sound, and more. In avoid of confusion, let’s still call my course as "Piano Course”. < Duration > For each course, I will reserve at least 70 minutes in my schedule for you, including 60 minutes of class time and an additional 10 minutes for discussion and any questions you may have. This will ensure that your courses are not rushed by the next student. This ensures that there is enough time for you to solve your piano and music problems. < Recording > I highly encourage my students to record their progress. This can provide an objective standard for comparison and help you analyze your playing precisely. In my nine years of experience teaching music, I've found many students, including those advanced, already play certain sections very well, while other sections may not be not well enough. But they still try to improving those fine sections, while not aware of those weak sections. Without an objective reference, it’s hard to distribute our effort precisely. This can lead to not only unstable performance, but also practicing without a precise goal can easily reduce enthusiasm. Recording your results and comparing them with those recordings you like on YouTube or Spotify can be an effective way to analyze your playing and set precise goals. If you have a digital piano, I can help you produce a video of your performance for each session. This can be a tangible record of your efforts and you can share it with your friends and family via YouTube or other platforms.

Logic Pro is a powerful but complex software tool that can be used to create everything from very basic recordings and compositions, to huge professional productions. You'll learn all the skills you need to set up and use Logic Pro; how to record and edit audio, use software instruments and plug-in effects, and how to mix and process your sounds. Lessons can either be conducted online, or at my studio, if you're local to Plymouth (it's not in a restaurant, I don't know why it says that!) I've been using Logic Pro for almost 25 years and have taught it at University level.

I have a master degree in music composition at the Royal Conservatoire Den Haag. I have been working in music composition for 10 year. This is a class where you are going to learn how to work with your own composition ideas as well get acquaintance to new composition tools and approach. This is open for different types of music approach: - contemporary classical music - electronic music production/Ableton (any style you want) - Music for Cinema (theory and how to do mockups with samples) -Generative Music (Using max/msp and reaktor)

I teach everything related to electronic music, both theoretically and practically: DJing, digital and analog production, audio recording, mixing, compositing, etc. My classes are tailored to each individual's needs and expectations. In addition to video lessons, I can also host classes directly in my studio to practice directly on my equipment (mixing desk, vinyl turntables, synthesizer, modular, drum machine, effects machine, piano, etc.). For those who live in Brussels, I can also come to your home if you prefer.

We will work together to design the course that is perfect for you. ABOUT ME I am an experienced music educator and have taught hundreds of lessons ranging from beginners to the graduate level. I structure my lessons around students' goals while encouraging them to keep open minds (and ears). I am a graduate of Yale University, the École Normale de Musique de Paris, the Fontainebleau Conservatory, and the Royal Carillon School of Belgium. I currently make music in Paris, where I am a 2023/24 lauréat of the Cité internationale des arts and a Mortimer Hays Traveling Fellow from Brandeis University. I was the 2021-2022 recipient of a Fulbright-Harriet Hale Woolley Award at the United States Foundation in France, and received the 2022 Rosalind Swenson Fulbright Enrichment Award. I am also a Fellow of the Belgian-American Educational Foundation. My most recent musicological article, "Overtones, Sonic and Politic: Octatonicism, Minor Thirds, and Bells," was published in Volume 71 of the scholarly journal of the Guild of Carillonneurs in North America in April 2022. Although I studied classical composition in school, I write music in many genres including classical, rock, jazz, pop, and film scores. I played the guitar and the drums in several rock and folk bands in high school. My favorite band is the Beatles. Outside of music, I enjoy making watercolor paintings of trees.

Beatmaking is the art of putting the right drums with the right melodies : but it's deeper than that. Music composition encompasses a lot of skills and requires a deep understanding of our own tastes, culture, and social skills in order to create the most authentic sound that we can think of.

Composition I can help you to choose a digital audio workstation, which you can use to write and record music. I can help you install it and get it set up on your computer. I can then guide through sourcing and installing virtual instruments that will let you create music in any genre, and for any purpose. Once you're setup, I can guide you through creating your first musical ideas, and then developing them into cohesive musical pieces. I can teach you how to write music for others, and contribute to creative projects. Once you've been learning for a while, or if you already have experience, we can start to cover more advanced topics such as orchestration, synthesis, and more complex musical forms. Production Music production is the process of taking a basic musical piece, such as a song, and arranging and polishing it to prepare it for release. I can teach you to arrange parts for strings, synths, or choir, or write drum, bass, guitar, or keyboard parts. I have worked with artists in folk, metal, rock, pop, jazz, RnB, hip hop, and EDM. No matter your genre, I can help you polish your songs and prepare them for release. Audio Engineering Do you want to set up your own home recording studio? To learn how to record and mix your own songs? Or are you just curious to understand more about how the recording process works in studios? I can teach all you need to know about microphones, audio interfaces, and how to record your own instruments. I can give you advice on what equipment you need to get started on setting up your own studio at home. I can also teach you how to edit and mix recordings and songs so that every element is clear and serves the rest of the song well. Finally, I can teach you to master your song to prepare it for release, ensuring that it is loud and clear, no matter where you publish it.
