As with many things, the best way to learn is to do. I will therefore take you through the entire professional process of designing a character for an animated project - from the fundamentals of anatomy drawing, to the initial research stage to iteration sketches, all the way through to the final model sheets! By the end, you will have created a memorable character that is unique, full of appeal, exuding personality, and ready to be animated. In 2019, I graduated with the Bachelor of Design in Animation with First Class Honours from the University of Technology, Sydney. Since graduating, I have had the privilege of working as a character designer and animator on the Netflix animated series, ‘Adventure Beast,’ enjoyed a design internship with Cheeky Little Media, and have also had the pleasure of illustrating several children's picture books for Playtime Books. These days, I am designing characters for Hey Daisy Moon, and have been tutoring character design, cartooning, and general drawing skills to students of all ages since 2021. Hello, Let me introduce myself, Marylène, professional storyboarder, graduated in animation cinema. I offer serious drawing lessons adapted to the level of the student, from the beginner to the young professional through the animation student. During the first lesson, we will talk about the student's expectations and set the artistic objectives by defining a personalized program. I would assess the level of the student, his strengths and weaknesses for a tailor-made course, taking into account to nourish his universe and his sensitivities with a background both cultural and technical. I teach both the basics of solid drawing to beginners (perspective, proportion, composition, volume, anatomy, gesture, posing, principles of animation ...) as well as to students / future students in animation cinema, to young professionals who want to specialize in storyboard or who have questions about how to develop a TV pitch. For the storyboard part, my specialty, I will teach the basics of cinematographic language (types of framing, transitions, camera movement ...) and I will follow with basic exercises to be able to make parts of portfolio. Indeed, I can also support the student for the realization of a portfolio / demoreel for animation schools. I could guide him to feed and build his book taking into account the expectations of schools and studios. I travel to Lyon for a travel fee, and also give online lessons via Webcam and screen sharing on Skype. You can enjoy with me the world of the line, shapes, colours and even stories using different kind of techniques such as pencil, ink, markers, watercolour and colours. We can also use in the digital world Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator. clip studio, paint, medibang paint and Firealpaca. Digital art requires no less skill than traditional art making, but it does require a different mode of thinking. Yes, a digital device will have the ability to make a stroke look and layer like watercolour or give the texture of drawing with charcoal. However, when one learns traditional art techniques, they gain a deeper understanding of the materials and what they can do.

Blender is a powerful open source program in which you will be able to use knowledge related to graphic design, but oriented towards 3D. In my class, you learn the basics of Blender and we will make a scene and characters to go in the scenes. After that, we will add color and create some easy animation with no rigging whatsoever. So you don't need an expensive computer to animate just a regular old laptop.

This class will teach you about experimental filmmaking as a whole, but tailored to what and how you want to make them.We will make films together, but also review and critique films that you make in your own time. Throughout this class you will learn develop skills in areas such as: Basic 3d animation (Blender) , 3D scanning (PolyCam), AI animation (VqGan+clip), both continuous and discontinuous video editing and composition as a whole. With experience working with Artists such as BEABADOOBEE; My aim is to make you feel more comfortable in streamlining your ideas from conceptualisation to a finished product, More comfortable producing videos that you want to make.

I have been teaching one-to-one as well as art and design workshops for the past 12 years. I can teach individual lessons or full courses on each of the following.
