Tutoring for All Levels of High School Biology and Chemistry

Biology and chemistry are the sciences of interaction. Lots of intricate science is present everywhere be that in nature or man made. For example, cars paint is a great example of d-orbital electron transitioning colour theory, snow flakes forming is a classic example of reaction feasibility and freckling of different cost colours in cats can determine their gender.

In my approach to teaching and tutoring biology and chemistry, I think it’s very important to take and use these abstract concepts and make them more tangible ideas. This I have found to help myself with learning these topics and I am confident that it is effective for other students too.

I have had tutoring experience for National 5 biology, higher and advanced higher chemistry and I help teach younger classes in a botanics society.

    About Me

I’m a very outgoing and talkative person. I have a deep love of all the subjects I have taken and learned, I often explain concepts in music, biology and chemistry - even though it lands on deaf ears.
I think whenever learning a new skill or topic it’s best to learn it practically or with a real world example. I have found this helps the information stick better and helps the student be more excited to learn more.

    Education

Advanced higher chemistry, biology and music.
Higher maths, English, biology, chemistry and music.
I have Grade 5 music theory, grade 8 singing, grade 8 and grade 8 in organ too.

    Experience / Qualifications

I have tutored a few people from National 5 - advanced higher in biology and chemistry.
I help teach classes each week in beginner music theory.
I have taught an advanced higher music class.
I coached rowing for 2 years.
I helped a botanics society in my old school for about a year.
The arts are vital for development and self expression. As children we learn, play and communicate with songs and rhymes, as we get older our music taste can often help in defining and finding out more about ourselves. There are also studies showing that learning an instrument can aid communication skills, maturity and keep the brain functioning into older age. In my lessons I aim to teach instruments to anyone who is interested in exams, playing for fun or if they want to learn another skill for it’s mental benefits. I have a grade 8 in trumpet, singing and organ and i have experience playing in a variety of different ensembles and genres. I have also taught many people theory, instruments and exam techniques for music. If you’re interested in any of the instruments I offer lessons but are hesitant to start. I urge you to give it a go.
Music theory is the foundation of all playing. You will never find a great musician who isn’t equally as good at playing the instrument as they are and understanding and analysing the piece too. I am a strong believer in making links between what someone is currently playing to what they will learn. If someone’s a beginner then it’s important to look at chords, intervals, key signatures etc.. If you’re a bit further in your playing then we can look at Bach chorales, stereotypical features in genres and styles of music, progressions of ideas throughout music history and more. Finally a person that is very advanced in music may know a lot of theory (by previous lessons or playing experience) and then it’s important to tie in not just advanced concepts in theory but also in history, culture and philosophy of music too. This could be something like deep diving into Charles Mingus’ “Haitian fight song” which uses huge amounts of ideas from Afro-Caribbean folk music, bebop and interpretive jazz. Then looking at the history behind it if oppression, freedom, patriotism and the cultural shift of a former slave nation.

Science and maths is a key to explore and know the world
Science is a subject where anybody can explore a lot and the math is just a tool for solving science. Knowing science is important in our daily life and to see the world in different aspects. I want to make children interested in science before getting in to the actual topics. I want them to see the world their own. I will be just showing the path to travel. Because it a subject that children can explore. I like to teach children the concepts and different demonstration in the science. It will help them to think and it will be there in their mind throughout. Many fun activities and facts will be included to understand the concept more.

GCSE and A Level Chemistry (Physical, Inorganic and Organic)
Chemistry, whether at the GCSE or A-Level, offers students an exciting journey into the building blocks of our world and equips them with a foundational understanding of matter and its transformations. At the GCSE level, students are introduced to key concepts such as atomic structure, the periodic table, bonding, and chemical reactions. Through hands-on experiments, they explore how elements combine to form compounds, investigate the properties of acids and bases, and study introductory organic and environmental chemistry. Practical skills and theoretical knowledge are developed in parallel, fostering an understanding of the scientific method and analytical thinking. As students advance to A-Level Chemistry, they deepen their knowledge with more sophisticated topics and a greater focus on problem-solving. Here, they explore physical chemistry, learning about reaction rates, thermodynamics, equilibrium, and redox reactions in-depth. Organic chemistry expands to cover mechanisms, functional groups, and synthetic pathways, while inorganic chemistry includes the study of complex compounds and transition metals. A-Level students also engage in advanced practical work, developing precision in laboratory techniques and research skills crucial for scientific inquiry. Together, GCSE and A-Level Chemistry provide a solid framework for students, paving the way for further study in fields like medicine, engineering, pharmacology, and biochemistry. By exploring both fundamental and complex chemical principles, students cultivate a critical understanding of the natural world and gain skills that will benefit them in a wide range of scientific and technical disciplines.

Biology and Chemistry: Secondary education - private lessons.
Need help with geography, biology or chemistry? As a civil engineer, 31, I am happy to help you! Learn at your pace and with many examples to clarify the learning material. I have years of experience in learning simple and complex material. The lessons run as follows. First, we look together for the student's biggest stumbling blocks. These can be related to the subject matter as well as to the study method. From there, I work at the pace of the student and encourage them to ask as many questions as possible. I also give tips and tricks, and improve their working methods where necessary. During the lesson I give many examples to make the subject matter more interesting and we solve exercises together. Once practiced from the lesson, I mastered challenging exercises to also test the deeper understanding of the subject matter. In this way I try to optimally prepare the student for his/her exam test. However, learning should also be enjoyable. That is why I always strive for a bond with the student through a spontaneous and positive approach. I am also very patient. All this to solve and improve the problems. Are you interested? Don't hesitate to receive me! Please come! Timo
