    Art History : From Impressionism to Conceptual Art

    Are you interested in Art History? Would you like to learn how to analyze artwork in a museum and speak confidently about it? If this interests you, I am offering tutoring on Modern International art, starting with Impressionism and moving through to conceptual art. Each class will cover a particular movement, I will assign the reading of interest and virtual exhibitions worth seeing.

    Art History is a valuable subject as it teaches you excellent research and writing skills, how to speak confidently, and strong analyzing skills. I can give introduction courses to the subject, from how to analyze a work to how to write about art. I can give in-depth courses to university students.
    I am also able to give courses in the Irish language.

    My name is Rachel, I am an Irish Art Historian and freelance writer living in London. I studied an undergraduate degree in Art History and Modern Irish at University College Dublin, before completing a Master's degree in Art History. I am particularly interested in Modern and Contemporary International art (1850-2000).

    About Me

    My name is Rachel and I am an Irish Art Historian living in London. I am extremely passionate about Art History and studied an undergraduate degree at University College Dublin in Art History and Modern Irish before completing a Master's degree in Art History at UCD.
    Since moving to London I have worked at The British Museum, Christie's auction house and Jealous Gallery. I am an experienced tour guide and have been a board member for the London Chapter of the Irish Georgian Society for the past year.

    MA Art History, University College Dublin, Second Class Honors, GPA: 3.55/4.2, 2017-2018.
    • After my undergraduate degree and my excellent final year dissertation, I was invited to continue my studies so enrolled in the Cities MA programme.
    • I wrote my thesis on the Irish Exhibition of Living Art from 1972, which was the first time Conceptual art was exhibited in Ireland. Due to the original nature of this topic, primary research was essential, I was mainly using archival material as well as interviewing artists who participated in the exhibition and academics researching the exhibition.

    • I completed a BA in Art History and Modern Irish, which allowed me to merge my passion for Art History with Irish language. Through my degree I studied a wide range of modules from Modern Art in Ireland to Georgian Dublin to Contemporary Irish Poetry.
    • I was chosen by Art History faculty as a student representative to contribute to the planning and improving of the school of Art History. One of the top students in my class, I learnt excellent research and writing skills as well as an analytic eye for design and detail.

    Gallery Assistant January 2020-Present
    • My current role involves working front of house dealing with buyers, as well as answering phone calls and emails.
    • A large part of my position involves working on exhibitions. I curate and hang exhibitions that rotate every three weeks. I also write the press release for exhibitions, produce a catalogue and organize exhibition openings.
    • My position also involves marketing, managing the gallery’s social media accounts as well as writing articles for the gallery’s website and newspaper.
    • I am responsible for packaging and shipping artworks to clients.
    • I am also required to organize and work at various art fairs Jealous takes part in throughout the year.

    • I am currently working as a freelance editor for Art Historian, William Laffan, editing his upcoming book on Architect John Preston Neale and his assessment of Irish country homes.

    • I briefly gave tours at the National Museum of Ireland - Decorative Arts & History, on the Decorative Arts Collection in the Museum through English and Irish.

    Irish Georgian Society (IGS) Research Internship August 2018- February 2019
    • My work at IGS primarily involves working on updating the IGS’s Catalogue of Theses and Dissertations Relating to Architecture and the Allied Arts, a research and cataloguing task.
    • I was responsible for assisting the Great Georgian Architects lecture series where I managed bookings, set up the AV equipment and worked front of house every week, welcoming visitors.
