I think it is important to work on the technique of the instrument so that the student advances having a solid base and can feel comfortable with the instrument. I always try to offer students the possibility of choosing some of the pieces that we are going to play, so that they feel more motivated, as long as it is appropriate for their level and we can work on the technique of the instrument at the same time. I think it is very important that the student enjoys learning and that the classes are adapted to their level, their tastes and of course their age. As an experience, I have been giving private violin classes for 10 years and 6 years teaching violin and other musical subjects in academies. In all these years I have learned to identify the weaknesses and facilities of the students, which helps me to personalize the classes based on what each student needs. Hello and thank you for visiting this website! I'm an established, qualified, and experienced violin teacher who has worked in London for the last 26 years. I'm now back in Belgium for some new musical adventures, as well as to meet new students. I welcome students from the age of four to adults. I have a real passion for transmitting my love of music, and I like to have a creative, playful and holistic approach to teaching. I also play the piano and often use it for aural training or to accompany my students (or do violin duets). I do believe that music is not just for competitions or exams but a skill for life that can bring tremendous joy, discoveries, friends and fun along the way. Learning an instrument is also a great way to foster different qualities such as patience, diligence, presence, resilience, deep listening and the ability to express and share our emotions with others. Having explored many different violin methods and styles, I take a different approach according to each student. I like to teach a solid classical technique with some scales, studies and pieces, but there are many different ways to make music enjoyable or find other paths depending on the student's goal. Although I was trained classically in Belgian Conservatoires and the Guildhall School of Music, I do like to teach a variety of music that is not just classical (Celtic, world, klezmer, jazz, tango, film music, pop...). I often encourage my students to compose or improvise freely. In the last two decades, I have led many youth orchestras and violin workshops and worked for many different primary and secondary schools in England.
