Maths and physics lessons by a 3rd year student at EPFL

As a 3rd year physics student at ETH, I offer private lessons in mathematics as well as academic support for middle school, high school/gymnasium and first year university students. I mainly base myself on the progressive resolution of exercises, to understand where the difficulties come from and to be able to overcome them. I listen and adapt to the student in order to understand their perspective. I can thus approach problems in the way that suits him best, which allows me to create solid foundations and establish an excellent understanding of the subject. A progressive approach to exercises and regular practice builds self-confidence and allows for great improvement over the long term! I have already taught students from: - Swiss Gymnasium -French high school and college - European School - EPFL - Paris Polytechnic School I therefore know the habits of these schools and can easily adapt to the program of the students I accompany. During lessons via ZOOM, I use a tablet that allows me to write directly on the student's screen.

I am a first year student at the Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne (EPFL) in the physics section. I had my baccalaureate with honors with 20/20 in mathematics and 18/20 in physics. I therefore master the middle and high school curriculum: in mathematics on all chapters and in physics, particularly the kinematics/dynamics chapters. I am able to take over the course to explain everything that is not clear and say what is important to focus on, give revision advice, correct exercises, work on exercises with the student in an educational manner to that he then approaches similar exercises more easily.

I quickly noticed that the problem often comes from understanding the exercises given rather than the course itself, so here's how I like to proceed: I always start by first making sure that the principle of the course is understood by focusing on the points that block, and then we can start looking at the exercises, given by the teacher, that pose a problem. The goal is that at the end of the rehearsal course, the student has in his hands cards with the different methods used to solve all the possible types of exercises, especially those requested in the exam. I myself take care of preparing these sheets during the rehearsal course in order to summarize all the methods acquired.

I love teaching and have always enthusiastically helped my classmates. I have been giving private lessons since 2016 (around 25 students, including 4 for a General Physics course in propaedeutics). I am also an assistant for two courses at EPFL (3rd year Bachelor and Master levels), and I co-created and taught the EPFL Advanced Analysis course (for mathematicians and physicists) during the week welcoming new students. I then strive to transmit my knowledge and my passion for the subject to my students, at a pace adapted to their needs.
